It is highly attractive to develop non-noble-metal nanoarray architecture as a high-active catalyst electrode for molecular detection due to its large specific surface area and easy accessibility to target molecules. In this paper, we demonstrate the development of cobalt nitride nanowire array on Ti mesh (Co 3 N NW/TM) as an efficient catalyst electrode for glucose oxidation in alkaline solutions and H 2 O 2 reduction in neutral solutions. Electrochemical tests suggest that such Co 3 N NW/TM possesses superior non-enzymatic sensing ability toward rapid glucose and H 2 O 2 detection. As a glucose sensor, this fabricated electrode offers a high sensitivity of 3325.6 μA mM −1  cm −2 , with a wide linear range from 0.1 μM to 2.5 mM, a low detection limit of 50 nM (S/N = 3), and satisfactory stability and reproducibility. Its application in determining glucose in human blood serum is also successful. Amperometric H 2 O 2 sensing can also been realized with a sensitivity of 139.9 μA mM −1  cm −2 , a linear range from 2 μM to 28 mM, and a detection limit of 1 μM (S / N = 3). This nanoarray architecture holds great promise as an attractive sensing platform toward electrochemical small molecules detection.

Cobalt nitride nanowire array as an efficient electrochemical sensor for glucose and H2O2 detection

Nanozyme/natural enzyme hybrid plays a vital role in biosensing, therapy, and catalysis owing to the integrated advantages in the selectivity of natural enzymes and controllable catalytic activity of nanozymes. Herein, Fe-MIL-88B-NH2 [(Fe-metal-organic framework (MOF)] with remarkable peroxidase-like activity, ultrahigh stability, and high biocompatibility was utilized for immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx) via an amidation coupling reaction. On the basis of the excellent selectivity and catalytic activity of Fe-MOF-GOx, a cascade catalysis was performed for the colorimetric detection of glucose. The integrated Fe-MOF-GOx not only exhibited higher stability and reusability than their mixtures including Fe-MOF and free GOx system but also possessed a wide linear range (1-500 μM), with a low detection limit of 0.487 μM for glucose detection.

Glucose Oxidase-Integrated Metal-Organic Framework Hybrids as Biomimetic Cascade Nanozymes for Ultrasensitive Glucose Biosensing.

Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng. is a perennial herb belonging to the family Lamiaceae which occurs naturally throughout the tropics and warm regions of Africa, Asia and Australia. This herb has therapeutic and nutritional properties attributed to its natural phytochemical compounds which are highly valued in the pharmaceutical industry. Besides, it has horticultural properties due to its aromatic nature and essential oil producing capability. It is widely used in folk medicine to treat conditions like cold, asthma, constipation, headache, cough, fever and skin diseases. The leaves of the plant are often eaten raw or used as flavoring agents, or incorporated as ingredients in the preparation of traditional food. The literature survey revealed the occurrence 76 volatiles and 30 non-volatile compounds belonging to different classes of phytochemicals such as monoterpenoids, diterpenoids, triterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, phenolics, flavonoids, esters, alcohols and aldehydes. Studies have cited numerous pharmacological properties including antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, antitumor, wound healing, anti-epileptic, larvicidal, antioxidant and analgesic activities. Also, it has been found to be effective against respiratory, cardiovascular, oral, skin, digestive and urinary diseases. Yet, scientific validation of many other traditional uses would be appreciated, mainly to discover and authenticate novel bioactive compounds from this herb. This review article provides comprehensive information on the botany, phytochemistry, pharmacology and nutritional importance of P. amboinicus essential oil and its various solvent extracts. This article allows researchers to further explore the further potential of this multi-utility herb for various biomedical applications.

Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng: Botanical, Phytochemical, Pharmacological and Nutritional Significance

It is highly attractive to construct a natural enzyme-free electrode for sensitive and selective detection of glucose. In this Letter, we report that a Ni2P nanoarray on conductive carbon cloth (Ni2P NA/CC) behaves as an efficient three-dimensional catalyst electrode for glucose electrooxidation under alkaline conditions. Electrochemical measurements demonstrate that the Ni2P NA/CC, when used as a nonenzymatic glucose sensor, offers superior analytical performances with a short response time of 5 s, a wide detection range of 1 μM to 3 mM, a low detection limit of 0.18 μM (S/N = 3), a response sensitivity of 7792 μA mM–1 cm–2, and satisfactory selectivity, specificity, and reproducibility. Moreover, it can also be used for glucose detection in human blood serum, promising its application toward determination of glucose in real samples.

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder in the endocrine system. This dreadful disease is found in all parts of the world and becoming a serious threat of mankind health. There are lots of chemical agents available to control and to treat diabetic patients, but total recovery from diabetes has not been reported up to this date. In addition to adverse effects, drug treatments are not always satisfactory in maintaining euglycemia and avoiding late stage diabetic complications. Alternative to these synthetic agents, plants provided a potential source of hypoglycemic drugs and are widely used in several traditional systems of medicine to prevent diabetes. Several medicinal plants have been investigated for their beneficial effect in different type of diabetes. Other alternative therapies such as dietary supplements, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and yoga therapies less likely to have the side effects of conventional approaches for diabetes.

Alternative therapies useful in the management of diabetes: A systematic review.

Objectives: This prescription-monitoring study was conducted to establish the drug-prescribing trend of anti-asthmatic drugs in various hospitals of Gorakhpur. Setting: The study covered three famous hospitals of Gorakhpur. Patients and Methods: Hundred patients were studied using a prescription auditing performa. Data was recorded from the patient's attending the out patient department using a chance random sample method for two months. Patients who co- operated were interviewed and information was filled in the performa. Results: The results suggested that b-agonist (40%) were the most frequently prescribed anti-asthmatic drugs followed by Methylxanthine (27%), corticosteroids (25%), leukotriene antagonist (4.4%) and anti-histaminics (3.6%) was the least prescribed. Analysis of prescription revealed that multiple drug therapy (81%) was opted for a significant number of patients as compared to single drug therapy (19%). Contrary to popular belief, oral dosage form tablets (56.3%) were preferred over inhalation (33.8%). Conclusion: It is concluded that the present prescribing pattern of anti-asthmatics in Gorakhpur does not completely meet standard guidelines of asthma treatment. Hence there is a need to encourage physicians of Gorakhpur to follow the guidelines while treating asthma.

Prescription pattern in asthma therapy at Gorakhpur hospitals.

Ethanolic extracts of Hedychium spichatum rhizomes and Zingiber zerumbet rhizomes were taken for in vitro comparative studies on the anthelmintic activity against Pheritima posthuma. Different concentrations (25, 50, 100 mg/ml) of both the extracts were used for the activity. Varying albendazole concentrations (25, 50, 100 mg/ml) were used as a reference standard and normal saline (0.9% NaCl) was used for the control treatment. The results were expressed in terms of time in minutes to report the paralysis and time of death of the earthworms. The results obtained from the study indicate toward the anthelmintic activity, supporting folk use of both the plants when compared with the standard. The results also established that Z. zerumbet was a more potent candidature of as compared with H. spichatum.

Background: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a major health problem worldwide. The number of infected people is increasing daily. Knowledge and awareness toward prevention and control of the disease is necessary among both educated and illiterate people. Objective: This study is aimed at assessing the knowledge and awareness about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/AIDS among undergraduate students studying in a technical institute in Gorakhpur Uttar Pradesh India. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among youths aged 15-30 years studying in a technical institution in Gorakhpur. Data were collected using a semistructured questionnaire developed with the help of existing literature from 250 participants (students). Results: The main source of information was the television; knowledge about the difference between HIV/AIDS was satisfactory. The findings showed that the knowledge about modes of prevention (blood checkup needle/syringe sterilization) was satisfactory. There were several misconceptions about the modes of transmission of the disease such as through mosquito bites eating/drinking and kissing. Conclusion: The knowledge of the study population was satisfactory and there is a need for innovation and comprehensive education to impart better knowledge and understanding about HIV/AIDS.
