Effect of Emotional Intelligence on Job Performance of IT employees: A gender study

This study explores the predictive utility of an emotional intelligence measurement that is based on the Role-Based Performance Scale (RBPS) measure of job performance. This inquiry aims to investigate whether the level of emotional intelligence score of each academic staff in the selected private higher educational institutions affects job performance. This research applied a quantitative method approach to cast the researchers’ net wider to include selected higher educational institutions to obtain as much data as possible. The results demonstrate a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance of academic workers in private higher educational institutions. Therefore, these significant findings shed further light on the theoretical and practical utility of the construct of emotional intelligence and job performance, and have proven the fact that emotional intelligence is accountable for and could predict job performance.

Emotional Intelligence and Job Performance of Academicians in Malaysia

Defining individual and cognitive factors that determine the career adaptability of university students and developing these factors through education, will positively affect the students’ career success. The aim of this study is to empirically test the influence of demographic factors and emotional intelligence, which are regarded as influential factors, on the career adaptability of university students. The study sample consists of students at Akdeniz University Tourism Faculty, which is located in the city of Antalya, Turkey. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed among 341 students, selected by random sampling method and these were analysed by CHAID method, which is a decision tree application. Findings of the study reveal the effects of gender and emotional intelligence on various significance levels in classifying the students' career adaptability as high and low. Findings indicate that emotional intelligence and gender are significant variables that can be used to differentiate the career adaptability. It is concluded that women with a high emotional intelligence level tend to have high career adaptability. According to the findings of the study, it is observed that female students with high emotional intelligence are more likely to deal with the challenges of today's business world in a better way.

Gender and Emotional Intelligence as Predictors of Tourism Faculty Students’ Career Adaptability

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a united system comprising of physical devices, mechanical and digital machines, and different hardware components like sensors, actuators, cameras etc., monitored and operated by the software. The combination of devices and systems connected over the internet opens the pathway for development of various applications beneficial in terms of economic growth of a nation. IoT has evolved as a potentially emerging computer technology solving various real-life problems and issues. IoT covers vast group of applications, from warfare to surveillance, from habitat monitoring to energy harnessing, predictive analytics and personalized health care, and so on. Among various fields, agriculture is one important field having maximum scope of implementation and investment. The main aim of this book chapter is to furnish all the details related to applications of IoT in the field of agriculture. This includes the details related to data collection, types of sensors used, deployment details, data access through cloud. It also covers details related to various communication technologies used in IoT such as Bluetooth, LoRaWAN, LTE, 6LowPAN, NFC, RFID etc. And above all, the chapter focuses on the significance of IoT on agronomics, agricultural engineering, crop production and livestock production. This chapter is a decade survey conducted to study the contribution of IoT in the field of agriculture. Around 40 research papers for the duration 2008–2018 are collected from peer reviewed journals and conferences. The collected articles are analyzed to provide relevant information required for the various end users.

A Decade Survey on Internet of Things in Agriculture

The research aims to analyze the relationships developed among emotional intelligence, occupational stress and employee performance in the financial banking sector. In other words, it aims to: (i) analyze the specialized literature regarding the concepts of emotional intelligence, occupational stress and job performance; (ii) to measure employees’ emotional intelligence, occupational stress and work performance; and (v) to analyze the relationship established among the aforementioned variables (emotional intelligence, occupational stress, job performance). A quantitative approach is adopted and a case study strategy is employed due to the fact that the research focuses on investigating a phenomenon which is frequently encountered in the real context of today’s organizations. Thus, a single-case study analysis is used and a survey based on a questionnaire is developed among 55 employees from the administration department of ING Bank Romania (Bucharest). The hypotheses are tested using partial least square - structural equations modeling and the results prove that in the Romanian banking institutions: (i) there is a negative relationship between employees’ emotional intelligence and the occupational stress; and (ii) there is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance. These findings have both theoretical and practical implications. At the theoretical level, the present study extends the theory from the human resources management field by proposing a model for evaluating the relationships established among emotional intelligence, occupational stress and job performance in the Romanian banking financial system. At a practical level, it increases managers’ understanding regarding the factors that influence employees’ performance and it provides several strategic directions that could be taken into account for future improvement.

Emotional Intelligence, Occupational Stress and Job Performance in the Romanian Banking System: A Case Study Approach

Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Job Performance among middle-level management in Indian organisations. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The sample for this study includes 685 managers from five different sectors in India (banking, power, health care, IT and advertising). The data was collected with the help of self report measures i.e. DKEIT used to measure EI and JPI used to gauge the job performance of employees. SPSS 23 was used for statistical analysis. Correlation and regression analysis was performed to find the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The stepwise regression models provide support for the association between EI and job performance. Findings: Employees with high EI are said to have better working relationships with other employees and they reflect higher integrity (Rosete, Ciarrochi, 2005) because they can foster better and positive interactions which thereby lead to better performance (Wong, Law, 2002; Dhani, Sharma, 2016). The results of our study are in line with this and state that employee with high EI are better at team work, punctual, accurate, and more competent as compared to the ones who score low on EI. In accordance with theoretical predictions, EI along with all its components; Emotional Perception, Emotional Appraisal and Emotional Regulation was significantly correlated to all indicators of Job performance, including: Punctuality, competence, accuracy and team work. The present study contributes to a growing body of literature seeking to find the relationship between EI and Job Performance, suggesting EI is one of the best known predictors of job performance. This is one of the first studies where self report measures DKEIT and JPI are used, which makes this study unique. Both of the tools are developed in India which adds value to the study. Application/Improvements: The sample of the study is delimited to middle level management from five service sectors, which is not truly representative of all the employees in the organization and the study can be expanded to the employees of the entire organization and other sectors.

Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Job Performance: A Study in Indian Context

The chief aim of this article is to examine the emotional intelligence (EI) and personality traits as the predictors of job performance of IT employees in India. To obtain this, the data was collected from 158 middle management employees working in Indian IT sector through random sampling method with the help of three scales such as DKEIT, JPI, and MPI. After data collection, the study carried out a different statistical analysis which includes frequency, correlation and regression analysis through SPSS 23.0 version. The study findings reported that both EI and Personality Traits impact the performance of job of IT employees, i.e. both Personality Traits and EI operate as a predictor of Job Performance of Indian IT employees. Based on which, the article gives few recommendations to future researchers.

Correlation and regression analysis were performed to find the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The results of correlation analysis showed a relationship between EI and six personality traits (empathy, ego-ideal, pessimism, introversion, neuroticism, and self confidence). The stepwise regression models provide support for the association between emotional intelligence and personality traits. No significant relationship was found between emotional intelligence and three personality traits, which are need - achievement, dogmatism, and dominance. Practical and managerial implications of the study are discussed in the article.
