Thermal-physical properties of nanoparticle-seeded nitrate molten salts

The impact of magnetic field on Engine Oil based generalized Brinkman-type nanofluid over an oscillating vertical plate embedded in a porous medium is studied. Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS2) nanoparticles of spherical shape are suspended in Engine Oil, taken as conventional base fluid. Effect of thermal radiation in energy equation is also considered. A generalized model of Brinkman-type fluid is considered with newly introduced fractional derivatives known as Atangana-Baleanu Derivative (ABD) in the presence of heat transfer due to convection. Exact solution of the problem is determined by means of the Laplace transform. Expressions for velocity and temperature are obtained in terms of Mittag-Leffler and General Wright function. The effects of various pertinent parameters on velocity are portrayed and discussed graphically. Numerical results of rate of heat transfer are computed in tabular form. Which showed that increasing values of volume fraction and Prandtl number increase rate of heat transfer.

Engine oil based generalized brinkman‐type nano‐liquid with molybdenum disulphide nanoparticles of spherical shape: Atangana‐Baleanu fractional model

While the dispersion of nanomaterials is known to be effective in enhancing the thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of fluids, the mechanisms behind this enhancement remain to be elucidated. Herein, we report on highly stable, surfactant-free graphene nanofluids, based on N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), with enhanced thermal properties. An increase of up to 48% in thermal conductivity and 18% in specific heat capacity was measured. The blue shift of several Raman bands with increasing graphene concentration in DMF indicates that there is a modification in the vibrational energy of the bonds associated with these modes, affecting all the molecules in the liquid. This result indicates that graphene has the ability to affect solvent molecules at long-range, in terms of vibrational energy. Density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations were used to gather data on the interaction between graphene and solvent, and to investigate a possible order induced by graphene on the solvent. The simulations showed a parallel orientation of DMF towards graphene, favoring π–π stacking. Furthermore, a local order of DMF molecules around graphene was observed suggesting that both this special kind of interaction and the induced local order may contribute to the enhancement of the fluid's thermal properties.

An investigation of thermal characteristics of eutectic molten salt-based nanofluids

In this study, the effect of concentration of nanoparticles on the thermal storage properties of molten nitrate salt-based nanofluids with graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) was investigated. Solar salt consisting of sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate was utilized as the base material for the nanofluids. Homogeneous dispersion of GNPs within the solar salt was observed through scanning electron microscopy analysis. For both solar salt and resultant nanofluids, differential scanning calorimetry was employed to measure the thermal storage properties, including characteristic temperatures of phase change, startup heat, and specific heat capacity (SHC). A maximum increase of 16.7 % in SHC at the liquid phase was found at an optimal concentration of 1 wt% of GNPs. At the same concentration, the onset temperature decreased by 10.4 °C, the endset temperature decreased by 4.7 °C, and the startup heat decreased by 9 %.
