High prevalence of subclinical tuberculosis in HIV-1-infected persons without advanced immunodeficiency: implications for TB screening
Tolu Oni,Rachael M. Burke,Relebohile Tsekela,Nonzwakazi Bangani,Ronnett Seldon,Hannah P. Gideon,Kathryn Wood,Katalin A. Wilkinson,Tom H. M. Ottenhoff,Robert J. Wilkinson +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, in high HIV/TB endemic settings, a positive HIV-1 test should prompt TB screening by sputum culture irrespective of symptoms, particularly in those with a positive tuberculin skin test, longer history of HIV infection and low CD4 count.

Rachael M. Burke,Rachael M. Burke,Marriott Nliwasa,Marriott Nliwasa,Helena R A Feasey,Helena R A Feasey,Lelia H. Chaisson,Jonathan E. Corbett,Peter MacPherson,Peter MacPherson,Peter MacPherson +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a systematic review by searching PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for studies that compared tuberculosis case notification rates, tuberculosis disease prevalence, or tuberculosis infection prevalence or incidence in children, between populations exposed and unexposed to active case-finding interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Coronavirus Disease Pandemic on Tuberculosis Notifications, Malawi.
Rebecca Nzawa Soko,Rachael M. Burke,Helena R A Feasey,Wakumanya Sibande,Marriott Nliwasa,Marc Henrion,McEwen Khundi,Peter J. Dodd,Chu-Chang Ku,Gift Kawalazira,Augustine T. Choko,Titus H. Divala,Elizabeth L. Corbett,Peter MacPherson +13 more

Titus H. Divala,Titus H. Divala,Rachael M. Burke,Rachael M. Burke,Latif Ndeketa,Elizabeth L. Corbett,Elizabeth L. Corbett,Peter MacPherson +7 more
TL;DR: Fragile health systems leave African countries vulnerable to the anticipated surge in severely ill patients with COVID-19, despite much younger populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) assay for Rapid detection of Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus - GBS) in vaginal swabs - A Proof of Concept Study
James McKenna,Ciara Cox,Derek Fairley,Rachael M. Burke,Rachael M. Burke,Michael D. Shields,Michael D. Shields,Alison P. Watt,Peter Coyle +8 more
TL;DR: The direct LAMP protocol described is easy to perform, facilitating rapid and accurate detection of GBS in vaginal swabs, and has a potential for use at point of care.
