Journal ArticleDOI

Biological Role of Pituitary Estrogen Receptors ERα and ERβ on Progesterone Receptor Expression and Action and on Gonadotropin and Prolactin Secretion in the Rat

TL;DR: The finding that activation of ERβ with its selective DPN agonist had an estrogenic effect on IR-PR nuclei, but not on GnRH self-priming, a characteristic ERα-mediated effect of E, suggests that the biological action of E at the pituitary may involve both isoforms of ER.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mast Cells in the Testis, Epididymis and Accessory Glands of the Rat: Effects of Neonatal Steroid Treatment

TL;DR: The results indicate that the increase in mast cell numbers was estrogen-dependent, specifically related to the testis and did not seem to be a consequence of the increased in the connective interstitial tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in pituitary secretion during the early postnatal period and anovulatory syndrome induced by neonatal oestrogen or androgen in rats

TL;DR: Females injected on the first day of life with oestradiol benzoate or testosterone propionate showed, in adulthood, anovulation, ovarian atrophy, reduced FSH plasma concentrations, increased prolactin plasma concentrations and reduced pituitary Prolactin content.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prepuberal Reproductive Defects in Neonatal Estrogenized Male Rats

TL;DR: The neonatal estrogenization produced the following reproductive changes prior to puberty: testis, adrenal, and ventral prostate atrophy; increase in the weights of seminal vesicles and epididymis; decrease in testosterone plasma levels; delayed balanopreputial separation; and abolition of luteinizing hormone response to orchidectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Comparative Study of Mast Cells and Eosinophil Leukocytes in the Mammalian Testis

TL;DR: The presence of high numbers of mast cells and/or eosinophil leukocytes in the testicular parenchyma of some species suggest a role for these cells in local regulatory pathways.
