The performance assessment of routing protocols in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) plays a critical role in testing the efficiency of the routing algorithms before deployment in real conditions. This research introduces the statistical design of experiments (DOE) methodology as an innovative alternative to the one factor at a time (OFAT) approach for the assessment and the modeling of VANET routing protocol performance. In this paper, three design of experiments methods are applied, namely the two-level full factorial method, the Plackett–Burman method and the Taguchi method, and their outcomes are comprehensively compared. The present work considers a case study involving four factors namely: node density, number of connections, black hole and worm hole attacks. Their effects on four measured outputs called responses are simultaneously evaluated: throughput, packet loss ratio, average end-to-end delay and routing overhead of the AODV routing protocol. Further, regression models using the least squares method are generated. First, we compare the main effects of factors resulted from the three DOE methods. Second, we perform analysis of variance (ANOVA) to explore the statistical significance and compare the percentage contributions of each factor. Third, the goodness of fit of regression models is assessed using the adjusted R-squared measure and the fitting plots of measured versus predicted responses. VANET simulations are implemented using the network simulator (NS-3) and the simulator of urban mobility (SUMO). The findings reveal that the design of experiments methodology offers powerful mathematical, graphical and statistical techniques for analyzing and modeling the performance of VANET routing protocols with high accuracy and low costs. The three methods give equivalent results in terms of the main effect and ANOVA analysis. Nonetheless, the Taguchi models show higher predictive accuracy.

Performance Assessment and Modeling of Routing Protocol in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks Using Statistical Design of Experiments Methodology: A Comprehensive Study

Background Social media platforms (SMPs) are frequently used by various pharmaceutical companies, public health agencies, and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) for communicating health concerns, new advancements, and potential outbreaks. Although the benefits of using them as a tool have been extensively discussed, the online activity of various health care organizations on SMPs during COVID-19 in terms of engagement and sentiment forecasting has not been thoroughly investigated. Objective The purpose of this research is to analyze the nature of information shared on Twitter, understand the public engagement generated on it, and forecast the sentiment score for various organizations. Methods Data were collected from the Twitter handles of 5 pharmaceutical companies, 10 US and Canadian public health agencies, and the World Health Organization (WHO) from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2021. A total of 181,469 tweets were divided into 2 phases for the analysis, before COVID-19 and during COVID-19, based on the confirmation of the first COVID-19 community transmission case in North America on February 26, 2020. We conducted content analysis to generate health-related topics using natural language processing (NLP)-based topic-modeling techniques, analyzed public engagement on Twitter, and performed sentiment forecasting using 16 univariate moving-average and machine learning (ML) models to understand the correlation between public opinion and tweet contents. Results We utilized the topics modeled from the tweets authored by the health care organizations chosen for our analysis using nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF): cumass=–3.6530 and –3.7944 before and during COVID-19, respectively. The topics were chronic diseases, health research, community health care, medical trials, COVID-19, vaccination, nutrition and well-being, and mental health. In terms of user impact, WHO (user impact=4171.24) had the highest impact overall, followed by public health agencies, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC; user impact=2895.87), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH; user impact=891.06). Among pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer’s user impact was the highest at 97.79. Furthermore, for sentiment forecasting, autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) and seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average with exogenous factors (SARIMAX) models performed best on the majority of the subsets of data (divided as per the health care organization and period), with the mean absolute error (MAE) between 0.027 and 0.084, the mean square error (MSE) between 0.001 and 0.011, and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) between 0.031 and 0.105. Conclusions Our findings indicate that people engage more on topics such as COVID-19 than medical trials and customer experience. In addition, there are notable differences in the user engagement levels across organizations. Global organizations, such as WHO, show wide variations in engagement levels over time. The sentiment forecasting method discussed presents a way for organizations to structure their future content to ensure maximum user engagement.

Synergy Between Public and Private Health Care Organizations During COVID-19 on Twitter: Sentiment and Engagement Analysis Using Forecasting Models

The automatic generation of features without human intervention is the most critical task for biomedical sentiment analysis. Regarding the high dynamicity of shared patient narrative data, the lack of formal medical language sentiment dictionaries prevents retrieval of the appropriate sentiment, which is unapproachable and can be prone to annotator bias. We propose a novel affective biomedical concept-based encoding via sentic computing and neural networks. The main contributions include four aspects. First, a biomedical embedding, in which a medical entity is defined, normalized, and synthesized from a text, is built using online patient narratives after being combined with label propagation from a widely used comprehensive biomedical vocabulary. Second, considering the dependence on biomedical definitions, drug reaction sample selection based on general matching is suggested. These feature settings are then used to build and recognize affective semantics and sentics based on an extreme learning machine. Finally, a semisupervised LSTM-BiLSTM model for biomedical sentiment analysis is constructed. There was a massive influx of patient self-reports related to the COVID-19 pandemic. A study was conducted in this direction, and we tested the validity, medical language familiarity, and transferability of our approach by analyzing millions of COVID-19 tweets. Comparisons to affective lexicons also indicate that integrating extreme learning machine cognitive capabilities has advantages over biomedical sentiment analysis. By considering sentics vectors on top of the formed embeddings, our semisupervised LSTM-BiLSTM achieved an accuracy of 87.5%. The evaluations of unsupervised learning approximated the results of the previous model when dealing with a serious loss of biomedical data. In this paper, we demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating deep-learning-based cognitive capabilities for both enhancing distributed biomedical definitions and inferring sentiment compositions from many patient self-reports on social networks. The relevant encoding of affective information conveyed regarding medication subjects clearly reveals defined roles and expectations that can have a positive impact on public health.

Synergy between Public and Private Healthcare Organizations during COVID-19 on Twitter.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) are the backbone of the intelligent transportation system, which consists of high-speed vehicles with huge dynamic mobility. The communication takes place with a vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle to infrastructure, with traffic signals. The major flaw of this kind of network is that due to high mobility in VANETs, the communication overhead is so high that it directly affects the efficiency of the network. Security is also holding a vital role in VANETs. The attackers can easily capture vehicle details of this type. To overcome this drawback, security should also need to get improved. This paper introduces Elliptical Curve Cryptography with Generic Algorithm based Privacy-Aware Secure Routing (ECC-GA-PASR), which is the combination of two methods such as optimal RSU distribution and elliptical curve cryptography (ECC) based authentication. RSU distribution is optimized by using the generic algorithm (GA) as well as to improve the authentication in trusted authority (TA) ECC algorithm is used. By using these two concepts, the proposed method reduced the communication overhead and increased the security of the network. The simulation is conducted throughput NS2 and SUMO. The performance analysis is performed concerning vehicle count, varying speed, and malicious activities. The parameters that are concentrated for this performance analysis are energy efficiency, packet delivery ratio, overhead, and packet loss. The performance of the proposed method is calculated and compared with earlier works such as S-AODV, ES-AODV, and ECC-ACO-AODV. Compared with the earlier works, the proposed ECC-GA-PASR produced 15% better efficiency, 12% better packet delivery ratio, 50% lower overhead, and 30% lower packet loss.
