RESTful HTTP and SOAP/WSDL services are two architectural styles for building web services, Where SOAP/WSDL based services follows an operation centric approach and RESTful HTTP based services follows resource centric approach. Dynamic composition of SOAP web services has been widely studied by researchers as compare to RESTful web services. RESTful web services have gained momentum in the development of distributed application but mostly it is hard wired with client application. We proposed novel approach termed as Web Service Resource Bundle (WSRB) for RESTful web service composition that takes care of selection of targeted web services considering inter-service dependencies and also dynamically bind services with client application. WSRB is bundle of composition of RESTful web service; ready to consume based on key passed by client. We developed hotel booking benchmark application with android mobile client using RESTful and SOAP based web services. We also measured benchmark results in both cases which show that proposed approach WSRB with RESTful web service gives best performance as compare to SOAP based web service.

Optimizing computational resource management for the scientific gateways ecosystems based on the service‐oriented paradigm

Grid computing has resulted in faster execution of applications. Day by day the requirement for execution speed of applications is increasing. To achieve this, suitable middleware is needed and to be configured requirement specific. An application can be executed faster only when there is no node failure or network failure. Moreover, at run time, if a node fails, there should be some alternative arrangement to reconfigure other node to complete the task which was supposed to be done by the failed node. Thus, a middleware is needed that can be configured according to the requirements of the application. Such a middleware would help in increasing the performance of the application. In most of the middleware available presently, dynamic configuration is not facilitated. This has become one of the reasons for the failure of adoption or implementation of Grid in many organizations. This paper analyzes the present GUI Grid - Alchemi with its components and challenges. It also proposes a toolkit-Scady which solves the challenges of Alchemi and provides higher performance. Two experiments are done and their result analysis shows the performance of the proposed toolkit.

SOAP and REST are two architectural styles to develop web service where SOAP follows operation centric and REST follows resource centric approach. Objective of dynamic web service modeling is to compose existing web services published on internet and generate new value-added service to satisfy client request; and it receives great response from many researchers. Even though widespread adoption of web service, there are some situation where we need automatic composition of existing web services from service repository and generate workflow automatically to fulfill client objective. After studying many research papers we find that Automatic RESTful Web Service Composition is still unexplored as compare to SOAP/WSDL-based web service. In this research paper, we proposed goal based constraint-driven internal web service composition and automatic workflow (GCDIWBC) algorithm Using AI planning which generates new value-added service by considering nested automatic service composition and generate workflow also. We also considered case where one automatic web service composition can call other automatic web service composition internally in the composition and generate workflow dynamically which will be run on workflow execution engine like WS-BPEL or WSMO. In other words service dynamically generated by GCDIWBC can nested to other generated service by other. GCDIWBC has implemented using prototype of travel scheduling scenario and performance evaluation with RESTful and SOAP/WSDL web services using state-of-the-art JSHON2 AI planner. Result shows that proposed algorithm with RESTful web service using JSHON2 outperforms SOAP/WSDL standard both in its response time and scalability.

Goal-Based Constraint Driven Dynamic RESTful Web Service Composition Using AI Techniques

Monitoring is critical for providing robust, high performance Grid environment. Without monitoring mechanisms, it will be impossible to determine the status or health of environment. And so it will be difficult to use it effectively & efficiently. Monitoring data can be used for performance analysis, performance diagnosis, performance tuning, fault detection and scheduling. Due to the complexity and dynamics of grid, a strong monitoring system is needed which should have features like Grid Monitoring Architecture compliance, Scalability, Resource Performance Analysis and Forecasting, Directory service for events subscription & notification etc. In this paper, we have reviewed the grid monitoring system – ‘Ganglia’. ‘Ganglia’ is a distributive monitoring system for high performance computing systems such as clusters and the Grid. It is based on a hierarchical design targeted at federations of clusters. This paper discusses the various performance parameters and criteria of the grid monitoring system – ‘Ganglia’ and provides some useful information as far as Grid Monitoring Architecture is concerned. With the advancement in high performance applications and building of low cost computing resources, resource allocation to tasks in Grid Computing has became one of the most critical job. If resource allocation is done properly, it can lead to high performance throughput. This paper analyzes the Windows based Grid toolkit — SCADY (Scalable and Dynamic) and proposes the dynamic resource allocation mechanism for tasks based on the CPU usage and load so that high performance applications can be catered. Idle nodes present in the network are identified and used for computation.

Considering this situation, we created a Grid framework called SCADY (Scalable & Dynamic) which is based on Alchemi.Net Grid Framework. From the literature review and findings it has been observed that a better fault tolerance mechanism is needed in these grid frameworks to ensure execution efficiency.
