The Modern Corporation and Private Property

There has been much debate concerning the performance of family firms and the drivers of their performance. Some scholars have argued that family management is to blame when family firms go wrong; others claim that family management removes costly agency problems and encourages stewardship. Our thesis is that these disagreements can only be resolved by distinguishing among different types of family firms. We argue that family CEOs will outperform in smaller firms with more concentrated ownership and underperform in larger firms with more dispersed ownership; they will do neither where firms are smaller and ownership is more dispersed or firms are larger and ownership is more concentrated. Is family leadership always beneficial

We analyze the welfare consequences of a monopolist having additional information about consumers' tastes, beyond the prior distribution; the additional information can be used to charge different prices to different segments of the market, i.e., carry out "third degree price discrimination." We show that the segmentation and pricing induced by the additional information can achieve every combination of consumer and producer surplus such that: (i) consumer surplus is non-negative, (ii) producer surplus is at least as high as profits under the uniform monopoly price, and (iii) total surplus does not exceed the efficient gains from trade. As well as characterizing the welfare impact of price discrimination, we examine the limits of how prices and quantities can change under price discrimination. We also examine the limits of price discrimination in richer environments with quantity discrimination and limited ability to segment the market.

When Boards Matter: The Case of Corporate Social Irresponsibility

We examine the effect of corporate environmental innovation (hereafter eco-innovation) on stock price crash risk and document a significant negative association. Utilising a large sample of publicly listed U.S. firms for the period 2003 to 2017, we find that an increase in eco-innovation from the 25th to the 75th percentile is associated with 17.62% reduction in stock price crash risk. This outcome remains robust to a variety of sensitivity tests and after accounting for potential endogeneity concerns. Eco-innovative firms attract more institutional investors and equity analyst following and disclose more information leading to lower stock price crash risk. Additional tests reveal that the negative effect of eco-innovation is contingent on the political leadership's ideology and environmental sensitivity. Our paper contributes to the ongoing discourse on the costs and benefits of eco-innovation, documenting the value-enhancing perspective of eco-innovation.

Does corporate eco-innovation affect stock price crash risk?

The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between brand image, service quality and price on consumer purchase intention. Normative and informative susceptibility has indirect effect on consumer purchase intention. The empirical analysis were determined by collecting data from sample of 301 consumers of large retail stores. The findings of study reveal the positive effect of brand image and service quality on consumer purchase intention. Results reveal the insignificant relationship between price and consumer purchase intention. The findings also documented that consumers in large retail stores don’t bother prices because consumers consider that the stores charge reasonable prices. Most of consumer’s purchases depend upon the brand image and service quality. Normative and informative susceptibility have positive effect on brand image. The recommendations and suggestions are very helpful for managers and operators of large stores. Brand image depends on informative and normative susceptibility.
