Assessment of Differential Item Functioning for Performance Tasks

TL;DR: In this article, two extensions of the Mantel-Haenszel (MH; 1959) procedure were explored for assessing differential item functioning (DIF) in performance measures, and the test of conditional association was proposed as a test of DIF for pofytomous items when the primary interest is in the between-group difference in item means, conditional on some measure of ability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of Differential Item Functioning in the NAEP History Assessment

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of a standard Mantel-Haenszel DIF analysis are compared to results obtained from supplementary analyses in which history course background, as well as score, is used as a conditioning variable.
Journal ArticleDOI

When Do Item Response Function and Mantel-Haenszel Definitions of Differential Item Functioning Coincide?:

TL;DR: A test item is typically considered free of differential item functioning (DIF) if its item response function is the same across demographic groups as mentioned in this paper, and a popular means of testing for DIF is the Mantel test.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Review of ETS Differential Item Functioning Assessment Procedures: Flagging Rules, Minimum Sample Size Requirements, and Criterion Refinement

TL;DR: The goal of this project was to review the status of ETS Dif analysis procedures, focusing on three aspects: the nature and stringency of the statistical rules used to flag items, the minimum sample size requirements that are currently in place for DIF analysis, and the efficacy of criterion refinement.
