The trust literature distinguishes trustworthiness (the ability, benevolence, and integrity of a trustee) and trust propensity (a dispositional willingness to rely on others) from trust (the intention to accept vulnerability to a trustee based on positive expectations of his or her actions). Although this distinction has clarified some confusion in the literature, it remains unclear (a) which trust antecedents have the strongest relationships with trust and (b) whether trust fully mediates the effects of trustworthiness and trust propensity on behavioral outcomes. Our meta-analysis of 132 independent samples summarized the relationships between the trust variables and both risk taking and job performance (task performance, citizenship behavior, counterproductive behavior). Meta-analytic structural equation modeling supported a partial mediation model wherein trustworthiness and trust propensity explained incremental variance in the behavioral outcomes when trust was controlled. Further analyses revealed that the trustworthiness dimensions also predicted affective commitment, which had unique relationships with the outcomes when controlling for trust. These results generalized across different types of trust measures (i.e., positive expectations measures, willingness-to-be-vulnerable measures, and direct measures) and different trust referents (i.e., leaders, coworkers).

Organizational Politics, Job Attitudes, and Work Outcomes: Exploration and Implications for the Public Sector.

Organizational politics has intrigued academicians and practitioners for decades. Yet, serious scholarship on politics in organizations has emerged as a viable body of scientific inquiry just within the past twenty years. In general, theory and research on organizational politics has been sorted into the two categories of political behavior and its effects, and the nature of organizational politics perceptions. With few exceptions, these areas of inquiry have been treated as largely independent of one another. Whereas it is useful periodically to take stock of the current status of our knowledge base in particular areas of inquiry, we are often remiss in not engaging in such activity frequently enough. The present paper seeks to address this void by determining the status of theory and research on perceptions of organizational politics. First, we report on a comprehensive review of the literature designed to convey the current state of the field with respect to theory development, testing, and validation, as well as methodological considerations, including levels of analysis issues. Then, we propose future challenges with respect to construct expansion and validation, theory refinement, multi-level considerations, and integration with other constructs in the organizational sciences. Other issues that need to be addressed in future work are also examined in an effort to propose a revised model of politics perceptions to guide future research.

Perceptions of organizational politics: Theory and research directions

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of contextual variables – organisational justice (procedural justice, interactional justice and psychological contract) and trust – on work engagement. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reports a quantitative study of 323 managers working in manufacturing and pharmaceutical organisations based in western India. Drawing from social exchange theory, this paper tests the mediating role of trust in the justice-engagement relationship. The paper also investigates the effect of work engagement on employees' innovative work behaviour. Findings – Results suggest that procedural justice, interactional justice and psychological contract fulfilment are positively related to work engagement with trust as the mediating element. Linking justice, trust and innovative work behaviour to work engagement

The study examines the relationship between political behaviors, e.g., ingratiation, structure change, cooptation, and threat, and their outcomes such as interpersonal trust, alienation, and feeling about job performance. A negative relationship between political behaviors and interpersonal trust andfeelings about performance, and a positive relationship between political behaviors and alienation is hypothesized. Results largely support the hypotheses. However, a relationship between political behaviors and feelings about job performance is marginal. Findings are discussed in the light of available research.

Organizational Politics and Its Effects on Members of Organizations

ICTs provide knowledge and resources that hold potential for womens empowerment. Access to technology is not only the availability of hardware but a training approach that facilitates computer adoption. This study examined the adoption of computer technology by novice urban women. It explored the contribution of psychological variables such as perceived usefulness perceived ease of use subjective norm and computer self-efficacy to behavioral intention to adopt computers. Both familial (encouragement. finances a computer literate member computer ownership and access.) and institutional (proximity of the training center preferred gender of the trainer attributes and role) support variables were considered. Results indicated that women adopt computer technology if it is evaluated to be useful to them and their family. Familial support such as a computer literate family member and or family computer and institutional support such as convenience of the training center and a patient and flexible trainer were found to be significant factors in facilitating computer adoption. It was towards the beginning and middle of this century that rumblings were heard among Parsees and Hindus about the need for female education. Despite opposition to it, the education of women had definitely become a public issue by the early 1920s. The slogan of Indian leaders and reformers by this time had come to be: educating a girl means educating a family (Chanana 1988). The years 1886 to 1917 were critical in terms of changing perceptions of the Muslim population on the traditional roles of women.
