Relations among subduction parameters

TL;DR: In this article, a multivariate analysis is applied to this data set to isolate causal relationships among these parameters, which yields empirical quantitative relations that predict strain regime and strike-slip faulting in the overriding plate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tertiary Pacific Plate Motion Deduced from the Hawaiian-Emperor Chain

TL;DR: In this paper, the rates of rotation of the Pacific plate relative to the Hawaiian melting (hot) spot are calculated from age data from the Hawaiian-Emperor chain, which is used to predict ages of seamounts and islands in other chains if the various melting spots are fixed with respect to one another.
Journal ArticleDOI

Implications of Pacific Island and seamount ages for the origin of volcanic chains

TL;DR: For example, age data from the Austral-Cook chain this paper show that ages are both younger and older than would be expected from the fixed hot spot hypothesis, and the best dated of these older chains, the Line chain, could have formed synchronously along most of its length.
