Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of a limited set of proteins with different mRNAs and protection of 5′-caps against pyrophosphatase digestion in initiation complexes

TL;DR: A variety of 5'-3H-methyl-labeled, oxidized viral mRNAs were used as probes for detecting in wheat germ initiation complexes proteins that interact with, and can be cross-linked to, the 5'-cap structure, and a model for cap binding protein interaction with mRNA cap during initiation of translation is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of siamycin I, a human immunodeficiency virus fusion inhibitor

TL;DR: Results indicate that siamycin I interacts with the HIV envelope protein, and a comparison of the DNA sequences of the envelope genes from the resistant and parent viruses revealed a total of six amino acid changes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lobucavir is phosphorylated in human cytomegalovirus-infected and -uninfected cells and inhibits the viral DNA polymerase.

TL;DR: The results suggest that LBV-triphosphate halts HCMV DNA replication by inhibiting the viral DNA polymerase and thatLBV phosphorylation can occur in the absence of viral factors including the UL97 protein kinase, and may be effective in the treatment of GCV-resistant H CMV.
