TL;DR: The effect of chemical modifications of the amino group on the biological activity of glucagon depends critically on the group which is introduced, and the usefulness of the trinitrophenyl group for the study of intramolecular singlet excitation transfer from tryptophan is suggested.

TL;DR: Inhibition of the synthesis of a reactive metabolic intermediate in prostaglandin biosynthesis may explain these apparently anomalous effects of prostaglandsin E 1 on glucose production.
Abstract: Prostaglandin E 1 decreases the basal rate of glucose production and abolishes the increase usually caused by glucagon or cyclic 39,59-AMP. This effect is mimicked by insulin, indomethacin, and acetylsalicylate, which also decrease prostaglandin levels. Inhibition of the synthesis of a reactive metabolic intermediate in prostaglandin biosynthesis may explain these apparently anomalous effects.
