(2-0) Y MKT 6301 (SYSM 6318) Marketing Management (3 semester credit hours) Overview of marketing management methods, principles and concepts including product, pricing, promotion and distribution decisions as well as segmentation, targeting and positioning. (3-0) S MKT 6309 Marketing Data Analysis and Research (3 semester credit hours) Methods employed in market research and data analysis to understand consumer behavior, customer journeys, and markets so as to enable better decision-making. Topics include understanding different sources of data, survey design, experiments, and sampling plans. The course will cover the techniques used for market sizing estimation and forecasting. In addition, the course will cover the foundational concepts and techniques used in data visualization and \"story-telling\" for clients and management. Corequisites: MKT 6301 and OPRE 6301. (3-0) Y MKT 6310 Consumer Behavior (3 semester credit hours) An exposition of the theoretical perspectives of consumer behavior along with practical marketing implication. Study of psychological, sociological and behavioral findings and frameworks with reference to consumer decision-making. Topics will include the consumer decision-making model, individual determinants of consumer behavior and environmental influences on consumer behavior and their impact on marketing. Prerequisite: MKT 6301. (3-0) Y MKT 6321 Interactive and Digital Marketing (3 semester credit hours) Introduction to the theory and practice of interactive and digital marketing. Topics covered include: online-market research, consumer behavior, conversion metrics, and segmentation considerations; ecommerce, search and display advertising, audiences, search engine marketing, email, mobile, video, social networks, and the Internet of Things. (3-0) T MKT 6322 Internet Business Models (3 semester credit hours) Topics to be covered are: consumer behavior on the Internet, advertising on the Internet, competitive strategies, market research using the Internet, brand management, managing distribution and supply chains, pricing strategies, electronic payment systems, and developing virtual organizations. Emotion and Adaptation

One of the most useful ways to enhance collaboration is to create scenarios where learners are able to interact more effectively. Nevertheless, the design of pedagogically sound and well-thought-out collaborative learning scenarios is a complex issue. This is due to the context of group learning where the synergy among learners' interactions affects learning processes and, hence, the learning outcome. Although many advances have been made to support the designing of collaborative learning scenarios through technology, a more systematic approach is lacking. With the limitations of the current designing methods and tools, it is difficult to develop intelligent authoring systems that can guide users in order to produce more effective collaboration. One of the main difficulties with creating a more consistent (computer-understandable) approach to designing collaboration is the necessity of proposing better ways to formalize the group learning processes. In this paper, we present an innovative approach that uses ontologies and concepts from learning theories to create a framework that represents collaborative learning and its processes. Ontologies provide the necessary formalization to represent collaboration, while learning theories provide the concepts to justify and support the development of effective learning scenarios. Such an approach contributes to establish the foundations for the development of the next generation of intelligent authoring systems referred to as theory-aware systems. To verify the viability and usefulness of our proposed ontological framework in the context of systematic design, the development and use of an intelligent authoring tool for CSCL design is presented. This system is able to reason on ontologies to give suggestions that help users to create theory-compliant collaborative learning scenarios. We carried out several experiments with teachers in a geometry drawing course and the results indicate that the system helps teachers to create and interchange their scenarios more easily and facilitates the selection of important pedagogical strategies that influence positively the designing and effectiveness of group activities.

The foundations of a theory-aware authoring tool for CSCL design

In this paper we discuss how current ontology concepts can be beneficial for more
flexible and semantic rich description of the authoring process and for the provision of authoring
support of Intelligent Educational Systems (IES) with respect to the three main authoring
modules: domain editing, course composition and resource management. We take a semantic
perspective on the knowledge representation within such systems and explore the interoperability
between the various ontological structures for domain, instructional and resource modeling and
the modeling of the entire authoring process. We build upon our research on Authoring Task
Ontology and exemplify it within OntoAIMS system. We present authoring scenarios and show
their mapping with authoring task ontology. Further we discuss the OntoAIMS framework for
management of electronic learning objects (resources) and their usage in the automatic generation
of course templates for the authors. Finally, we describe our architecture, based on the
ontological specification of the authoring process.

OntoAIMS: ontological approach to courseware authoring

Functionality is one of the key concepts in understanding an artifact and in engineering domain knowledge. Although the importance of sharing of engineering knowledge in industry has been widely recognized, from our experience with collaborative research with a production company, industrial engineers have had difficulty in sharing engineering knowledge including functionality. To promote the sharing of the engineering knowledge from the viewpoint of functionality, we have established an ontology-based knowledge modeling methodology for functional knowledge, which has been successfully deployed in a production company. It consists of two ontologies to capture functionality and the specifications for modeling processes. This paper summarizes these ontologies and its deployment, and discusses the modeling process based on the ontologies, which includes detailed modeling steps, types of functional knowledge, and ontological guidelines.

Ontology-Based Functional-Knowledge Modeling Methodology and Its Deployment

This paper proposes a new category of functions of artifacts called meta-function. Although conventional research on functional representation defines function as some kinds of abstraction of changes in objects associated with components, a meta-function of a component represents a role played by a function of the component for another function of another component without mention of such changes specific to the target system. The meta-functions explain the types of collaboration and dependency among functions of components as part of the design rationale of the target artifacts. This paper defines nine types of the meta-functions such as ToEnable and ToDrive, which form part of an ontology of functional concepts. The utility of the ontology in explanation and redesign is also discussed.

This article reflects on the ontology engineering methodology discussed by the paper entitled “Using Ontological Engineering to Overcome AI-ED Problems” published in this journal in 2000. We discuss the achievements obtained in the last 10 years, the impact of our work as well as recent trends and perspectives in ontology engineering for AIED.
