In this paper, we define and explore proofs of retrievability (PORs). A POR scheme enables an archive or back-up service (prover) to produce a concise proof that a user (verifier) can retrieve a target file F, that is, that the archive retains and reliably transmits file data sufficient for the user to recover F in its entirety.A POR may be viewed as a kind of cryptographic proof of knowledge (POK), but one specially designed to handle a large file (or bitstring) F. We explore POR protocols here in which the communication costs, number of memory accesses for the prover, and storage requirements of the user (verifier) are small parameters essentially independent of the length of F. In addition to proposing new, practical POR constructions, we explore implementation considerations and optimizations that bear on previously explored, related schemes.In a POR, unlike a POK, neither the prover nor the verifier need actually have knowledge of F. PORs give rise to a new and unusual security definition whose formulation is another contribution of our work.We view PORs as an important tool for semi-trusted online archives. Existing cryptographic techniques help users ensure the privacy and integrity of files they retrieve. It is also natural, however, for users to want to verify that archives do not delete or modify files prior to retrieval. The goal of a POR is to accomplish these checks without users having to download the files themselves. A POR can also provide quality-of-service guarantees, i.e., show that a file is retrievable within a certain time bound.

The world today is facing the problem of ever-increasing level of pollution of water bodies. The seriousness of this problem calls for specialized attention to predict future trend. Data mining is the most popular technique for handling huge amount of geo-spatial data. The variety and size of information to be processed for proper trend analysis towards water quality management makes the use of data mining concepts all the more relevant. This paper summarizes the on-going researches involving data mining applications in this area. The applications have been observed to use the techniques of ANN, Fuzzy, or GIS modeling for feature-wise classification of water pollutants. The parameters need to be clustered depending upon their area of application. The respective advantages of each model in classifying the parameters have been identified. The authors have arrived at a set of parameters best suited for analyzing the effect of pollutants on the river Churni, an effluent of the river Bhagirathi.

A survey of data mining applications in water quality management

Health-care service in remote environment opens for several security challenges. These may affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of resource. Securing service is a big concern for this kind of application. Encoding is required before uploading data to remote web server. Identity management is another primary aspect to validate any service. One-time identity verification during login has no importance, because valid session may be hijacked by impostors. Compared to other techniques, identity management based on human computer interaction is simple and less costly in remote environment. Service verification also needs to be considered to control access rights along with end user verification. A secured remote service (SecReS) framework is proposed here to ensure availability of health-care resource to valid end users. This service is capable to reduce time complexity, bandwidth cost, and to increase accuracy and attack resistance capacity. Theoretical analysis shows its efficiency.

Securing Service in Remote Healthcare

A Look into the Vulnerability of Voice Assisted IoT

The authentication of users is of utmost importance in remote applications such as healthcare, banking, stock markets, etc. Key stroke dynamics are popular biometrics tools used for this purpose. Continuous authentication requires free text analysis which has a number of challenges. This paper has proposed a solution to identify the existence of a unique pattern in each individual user’s keystroke dynamics. However, dense zone identification is important factor in forming the intelligent database of user profile for authentication. The authors have categorized basic key stroke features of digraph into 57 groups depending on distance traversed while moving from one key to another. The paper also includes graphical plots of the grouping of time vector which has unveiled some characteristics of overlapping typing style of users. The authors hope to extend this logic for identifying behavioral disorders in users.

An approach to classify keystroke patterns for remote user authentication

This chapter gives an overview of research works on secure routing protocol and also describes a Novel Secure Routing Protocol RSRP proposed by the authors. The routes, which are free from any malicious node and which belong to the set of disjoint routes between a source destination pair, are considered as probable routes. Shamir’s secret sharing principle is applied on those probable routes to obtain secure routes. Finally, the most trustworthy and stable route is selected among those secure routes using some criteria of the nodes present in a route (e.g., battery power, mobility, and trust value). In addition, complexity of key generation is reduced to a large extent by using RSA-CRT instead of RSA. In turn, the routing becomes less expensive and highly secure and robust. Performance of this routing protocol is then compared with non-secure routing protocols (AODV and DSR), secure routing scheme using secret sharing, security routing protocol using ZRP and SEAD, depending on basic characteristics of these protocols. All such comparisons show that RSRP shows better performance in terms of computational cost, end-to-end delay, and packet dropping in presence of malicious nodes in the MANET.
