Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic variation of intestinal fatty acid-binding protein associated with variation in body mass in aboriginal Canadians.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the T54 variant of the intestinal fatty acid-binding protein is associated with differences in fat metabolism in this aboriginal population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative efficacy and safety of pravastatin, nicotinic acid and the two combined in patients with hypercholesterolemia.

TL;DR: Pravastatin is very effective and well tolerated in the treatment of type IIa or IIb primary hypercholesterolemia, and is superior to nicotinic acid in both efficacy and adverse event profile.
Journal ArticleDOI

Paraoxonase-2 Gene (PON2) G148 Variant Associated with Elevated Fasting Plasma Glucose in Noninsulin- Dependent Diabetes Mellitus*

TL;DR: The findings suggest that the PON2 G148 gene variant worsens glycemia in subjects with NIDDM, and defining the physiological role of the P onase-2 gene product would be worthwhile, and genetic factors can modify the severity of clinical phenotypes in Subjects with N IDDM.
Journal ArticleDOI

Common Genomic Variation in the APOC3 Promoter Associated With Variation in Plasma Lipoproteins

TL;DR: Genotypes of functional genomic variants of APOC3, APOE, FABP2, and PON1 in 509 adult aboriginal Canadians from an isolated community in Northern Ontario determined that homozygosity for presence of a C at nucleotide -455 and a T atucleotide -482 was associated with significantly increased plasma triglycerides in both men and women.

Society Guidelines 2012 Update of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Dyslipidemia for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in the Adult

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an updated version of the guidelines, incorporating new recommendations based on recent findings and harmonizing CCS guidelines with those from other Societies, using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system.
