The database on structural phase transitions is presented in the simple and easy accessible form of table. The symmetry changes and temperature for 3446 phase transitions and the references for each of 2242 registered crystalline materials with well defined stoichoimetry are the main data in this table. The rules for constructing and reading the database table are also presented.

The stimulated emission cross sections of rare‐earth transitions depend strongly on the host. The properties that influence the cross sections—line strength, linewidth, and refractive index—are reviewed, and rules for tailoring cross sections are discussed. To illustrate the application of these rules, the largest stimulated emission cross section for the 4F3/2→4I11/2 transition of Nd3+ observed for any oxide or halide glass was obtained for a new class of bismuth‐chloride‐based glasses. Spectroscopic and physical properties and laser parameters of these and other halide glasses are presented.

Tailoring stimulated emission cross sections of Nd3+ laser glass: Observation of large cross sections for BiCl3 glasses

Solar energy is the prominent renewable source of electricity if cheap methods will be designed for its concentration and conversion. The geographical, seasonal and spectral distribution of the terrestrial solar energy are described. The concept of non-tracking fluorescent concentrators and the mathematical background for collection and concentration of direct and diffuse light are discussed. The single plate, multiple stacks and thin films doped by one or more colorants are reviewed. The differences between inorganic and organic materials are analyzed. Suggestions for new hybrid systems are made.

Fluoride glass research in France: fundamentals and applications

New glasses have been prepared in the PbF 2  M t II F 2  M t III F 3 systems ( m t II = Mn 2+ , Fe 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ ; M t III = Fe 3+ , V 3+ , Cr 3+ , Ga 3+ ). The extent of the vitreous area is shown in a PbF 2 MnF 2 FeF 3 diagram. Thermal properties have been measured for all samples. Some of these glasses are very transparent over a wide range of wavelengths (from 250–12 000 nm). The sixfold coordination of transition metal ions has been established by spectroscopic investigations. The structure of the glasses is discussed on the basis of a random corner-sharing of MF 6 octahedra.

These glasses are characterized by the fact that they contain at least 25% in moles, approximately, of a fluoride or a mixture of fluorides MX(X1)2, in which: X and X1 each represent a fluorine atom, and M then represents a metal chosen from among the group consisting of gallium, iron, chromium, vanadium, indium, and the rare earths, or X represents an oxygen atom, X1 represents a fluorine atom, and M then represents a titanium atom, it being understood that the said glasses contain no hydrofluoric acid as a network former and that, in the case in which M represents a gallium or indium atom, the glasses do not contain more than 15% in moles of BaPO3 F. Application notably in obtaining glasses containing various cations conferring particular optical or magneto-optical properties.
