A shielded medical device implanted in a biological organism. The device has a magnetic shield, and the magnetic shield contains a layer of nanomagnetic material; such layer has a morphological density of at least 98 percent; and it is bonded to the medical device by means of an interlayer with a thickness of less than about 10 microns. The nanomagnetic material in such layer has a saturation magnetization of from about 1 to about 36,000 Gauss, a coercive force of from about 0.01 to about 5,000 Oersteds, a relative magnetic permeability of from about 1 to about 500,000, and an average particle size of less than about 100 nanometers.

An organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display is disclosed. In one aspect, the display includes a stretchable substrate, a thin film transistor (TFT) formed over the stretchable substrate and including a plurality of electrodes, an OLED electrically connected to the TFT and including a plurality of electrodes, and a plurality of interconnection lines connected to the electrodes of the OLED and the TFT. At least one of the interconnection lines is configured to move in a stretching direction and rotate an electrode selected from the electrodes of the OLED and the TFT connected to the at least one interconnection line.

A tape recording system is provided for coupling the angular velocities of a pair of roller guides disposed one on either side of a head assembly. In one embodiment, the roller guides each comprise cylindrical first and second surfaces wherein the first surfaces guide a tape over the head assembly. An idler bearing comprising a cylindrical ring having an inside diameter surface engages in rolling contact the second surfaces of the pair of roller guides, thereby coupling the angular velocities of the pair of roller guides. In another embodiment, an idler bearing comprises a roller having an outside diameter surface that engages the surfaces of a pair of roller guides on each side of the head to couple the angular velocities of the pair of roller guides.

A tape movement constraint is provided for a tape drive system which moves a tape (11) longitudinally along a tape path across a tape head (15), the tape (11) having longitudinal tracks (18). The tape head (15) has a track following servo system for moving the head (15) laterally for following lateral movement of the tracks (18), where the tape (11) is subject to lateral transient movement. A tape roller bearing (60, 61) closely adjacent the tape head (15) is rotatable about a central axis (71) parallel to a cylindrical peripheral surface (73), allowing the tape (11) freedom of movement in the longitudinal direction. The tape roller bearing (60, 61) has a frictional cylindrical peripheral surface (73) for contacting and engaging the surface of the tape (11) and constraining movement of the tape (11) in the lateral direction, thereby reducing the rate of the lateral transient movement of the tape (11) to allow the track following servo system to follow the reduced rate lateral transient movement of the longitudinal tracks (18). Any potential air bearing that could form between the surface of the tape (11) and the surface of the roller bearing (60, 61) is collapsed to insure that the roller bearing (60, 61) frictionally contacts and engages the surface of the tape (11).

A tape drive system includes a magnetic head, a drive mechanism for passing a magnetic tape over the head, and an ion generating device for providing ions in a vicinity of the tape, the ions being adsorbed onto the tape surface, which may include being absorbed by water on the tape. Ions dissolved in the water promote corrosion of metallic accumulations on the head.
