TL;DR: In the past decade or so the country of Australia has been an effective poster child for neo-liberalism, and no matter what the political party in power, governments have pursued privatisation of government enterprises and general microeconomic reform in an attempt to accelerate Australian productivity growth.
Abstract: Over the past decade or so the country of Australia has been an effective poster child for neo-liberalism. No matter what the political party in power, governments have pursued privatisation of government enterprises and general microeconomic reform – reductions in regulatory barriers to entry and attempts to eliminate blockages to competition in labour and product markets – in an attempt to accelerate Australian productivity growth.
