Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction in Obesity and Related Comorbid Conditions after Diet-Induced Weight Loss or Exercise-Induced Weight Loss in Men: A Randomized, Controlled Trial
TL;DR: A randomized, controlled trial to determine the independent effect of diet-induced or exercise-induced weight loss on obesity and insulin resistance in moderately obese men found that exercise had no independent effect on insulin sensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise-Induced Reduction in Obesity and Insulin Resistance in Women: a Randomized Controlled Trial
Robert Ross,Ian Janssen,Jody Dawson,Ann-Marie Kungl,Jennifer L. Kuk,Suzy L. Wong,Thanh-Binh Nguyen-Duy,SoJung Lee,Katherine Kilpatrick,Robert Hudson +9 more
TL;DR: Daily exercise without caloric restriction was associated with substantial reductions in total fat, abdominal fat, visceral fat, and insulin resistance in women and exercise without weight loss was also associated with a substantial reduction in total and abdominal obesity.
Journal Article
Reduction in Obesity and Related Comorbid Conditions after Diet-Induced Weight Loss or Exercise-Induced Weight Loss in Men
TL;DR: Weight loss induced by increased daily physical activity without caloric restriction substantially reduced obesity (particularly abdominal obesity) and insulin resistance in men as mentioned in this paper, and increased the risk of developing heart disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of an Energy-Restrictive Diet With or Without Exercise on Abdominal Fat, Intermuscular Fat, and Metabolic Risk Factors in Obese Women
TL;DR: Weight loss was associated with reductions in metabolic risk factors in obese women and the findings reinforce the importance of diminished visceral fat in the treatment of insulin resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise without weight loss is an effective strategy for obesity reduction in obese individuals with and without Type 2 diabetes.
SoJung Lee,Jennifer L. Kuk,Lance E. Davidson,Robert Hudson,Katherine Kilpatrick,Terry E. Graham,Robert Ross +6 more
TL;DR: Regular exercise without weight loss is associated with a substantial reduction in total and visceral fat and in skeletal muscle lipid in both obesity and T2D.
