Journal ArticleDOI
Improved survival of gastric cancer with tumour Epstein-Barr virus positivity: an international pooled analysis.
M. Constanza Camargo,Woo Ho Kim,Anna Maria Chiaravalli,Kyoung-Mee Kim,Alejandro H. Corvalan,Keitaro Matsuo,Jun Yu,Joseph J.Y. Sung,Roberto Herrera-Goepfert,Fernando Meneses-Gonzalez,Yuko Kijima,Shoji Natsugoe,Linda M. Liao,Jolanta Lissowska,Sung Kim,Nan Hu,Carlos González,Y. Yatabe,Chihaya Koriyama,Stephen M. Hewitt,Suminori Akiba,Margaret L. Gulley,Philip R. Taylor,Charles S. Rabkin +23 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that tumour EBV positivity is an additional prognostic indicator in gastric cancer, and the mechanisms underlying this protective association are warranted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum Albumin as a Significant Prognostic Factor for Patients with Gastric Carcinoma
Luis F. Oñate-Ocaña,Vincenzo Aiello-Crocifoglio,Dolores Gallardo-Rincón,Roberto Herrera-Goepfert,Rocío Brom-Valladares,José F. Carrillo,Eduardo Cervera,Alejandro Mohar-Betancourt +7 more
TL;DR: Pretherapeutic serum albumin level is a significant prognostic factor, which should be evaluated along with other well-defined prognostic factors in decisions concerning therapy for GC.
Journal ArticleDOI
The precursor lesions of invasive gallbladder carcinoma. Hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia and carcinoma in situ
Jorge Albores-Saavedra,Avissai Alcantra-Vazquez,Humberto Cruz-Ortiz,Roberto Herrera-Goepfert +3 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that a small number of hyperplasias of the gallbladder evolve toward atypical hyperplasia and that this progresses to in situ carcinoma which finally becomes invasive carcinoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of Epstein-Barr virus-positive gastric cancer: an international pooled analysis.
M C Camargo,Gwen Murphy,Chihaya Koriyama,Ruth M. Pfeiffer,W.H. Kim,Roberto Herrera-Goepfert,Alejandro H. Corvalan,Edwin Carrascal,Afshin Abdirad,Muhammad Anwar,Z Hao,J Kattoor,E Yoshiwara-Wakabayashi,Yoshito Eizuru,Charles S. Rabkin,Suminori Akiba +15 more
TL;DR: Distinguishing histologic and geographic features as well as interactions among age, sex, and subsite further support classification of EBV-associated gastric cancer as a distinct aetiologic entity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Helicobacter pylori eradication and gastric preneoplastic conditions: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Catherine Ley,Alejandro Mohar,Jeannette Guarner,Roberto Herrera-Goepfert,Luz Sanchez Figueroa,David Halperin,Iain Johnstone,Julie Parsonnet +7 more
TL;DR: In conclusion, incomplete regression suggests but does not prove that eradication of H. pylori decreases gastric cancer risk, using preneoplastic conditions as surrogate markers.
