Disclosed is a circuit which permits transmission of broadband analog CATV video signals on unshielded twisted wire pairs. The circuit includes an autotransformer with a ground connection coupled to the node between two secondary windings. The two opposite ends of the secondary windings are coupled to a choke, which, in turn, is coupled to an isolation transformer with a center-tapped primary and secondary winding for shunting any remaining common-mode currents.

A method is described for parallel transmission of binary digital signals at around 2 Mbit/s via separate conductor pairs of a common local cable. The two or more bits of the binary digital signal converted in a coder (C) into a redundancy-free or low-redundancy quaternary digital signal are adapted by two baluns (Sy 1; Sy 2) to one conductor pair (L) of a balanced local cable (Fig. 1). Following the transmission of the converted quaternary signal, a feedback known per se is carried out at the receiving end in order to recover the low-frequency spectral components lost on the transmission path and, in addition, to reduce the near-end and far-end crosstalk and pulse noise.
