Journal ArticleDOI

Joint determination of 40K decay constants and 40Ar∗/40K for the Fish Canyon sanidine standard, and improved accuracy for 40Ar/39Ar geochronology

TL;DR: In this article, a statistical optimization approach was proposed for estimating the 40Ar/39Ar decay constants from 40K activity data, K-Ar isotopic data, and pairs of 238U-206Pb and 40Ar-39Ar data for rigorously selected rocks to estimate the partial decay constants (λe and λβ).
Journal ArticleDOI

A test for systematic errors in 40Ar/39Ar geochronology through comparison with U/Pb analysis of a 1.1-Ga rhyolite

TL;DR: In this paper, the decay constants of 40Ar/39Ar and 40K → 40Ar were compared with the results of the Palisade Rhyolite alkali feldspar.
Journal ArticleDOI

Age and timing of the Permian mass extinctions: U/Pb dating of closed-system zircons.

TL;DR: Zircons from nine ash beds within the Shangsi and Meishan sections (China), pretreated by annealing followed by partial attack with hydrofluoric acid, result in suites of consistent and concordant uranium/lead (U/Pb) ages, eliminating the effects of lead loss.
