Journal ArticleDOI

Basic research and 12 years of clinical experience in computer-assisted navigation technology: a review.

TL;DR: The results indicate that the medical benefit is likely to outweight the expenditure of technology with few exceptions (calvaria transplant, resection of the temporal bone, reconstruction of the orbital floor), and specialized software reduces time and additional costs necessary to plan and perform procedures with computer-aided surgical navigation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Calibration of tracking systems in a surgical environment

TL;DR: The authors have found the calibration to be stable after re-registration of the sensors under varying conditions such as different heights of the OR table and varying positions of the Or equipment over a longer time interval to encourage the further development of a hybrid magnetooptical tracker for computer-aided surgery.
Journal ArticleDOI

A head-mounted operating binocular for augmented reality visualization in medicine - design and initial evaluation

TL;DR: The basic design of the modified HMD, the method and results of an extensive laboratory study for photogrammetric calibration of the Varioscope's computer displays to a real-world scene, and the accuracy achieved is sufficient for a wide range of CAS applications are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of the buccal fat pad in oral reconstruction.

TL;DR: Use of the buccal fat pad is a safe and easy method to reconstruct defects in the posterior maxilla and soft palate, and good vascularization, ease of access, and minimal donor site morbidity make it a reliable soft tissue graft.
Journal ArticleDOI

Implant survival in mandibles of irradiated oral cancer patients.

TL;DR: Although implant survival is lower in irradiated mandibles, implants significantly facilitate prosthodontic treatment and enhance outcome of oral rehabilitation in cancer patients.
