Multiobjective cuckoo search for design optimization

As the Web grows and the amount of available informa- tion increases, new problems such as information over- load or lost-in-hyperspace problem emerge. The solution is to shift from \one-size-ts-all " approach and to pro- vide personalized surng experience, which would take into account dierences among users. These dierences are captured in a user model, a structure holding all rel- evant user-related information. We present contributions in both data collection and processing stages of user mod- eling process, focusing on open corpus web-based sys- tems, where the content can be dynamically added or changed and we have no content available in the design stage of the web-based system. We introduce two meth- ods falling within the scope of data collection stage, a method for comprehensive logging of user activity on the Web with preserved semantics, which combines client side and server side logging into a stream of user events with clearly dened meaning, and a method for capturing logs of \wild" Web surng based on a specialized proxy sever. The second group of methods, devoted to actual user model creation within an open corpus environment con- sists of a method for user model inference based on rules expressing navigational patterns, a method for term-based open corpus user modeling, which can be applied to cap- ture user's interest across the third-party web-sites and web-based systems. We proposed also a method for nd- ing relations between terms based on folksonomies, which supports our term-based user modeling approach. Towards Social-based User Modeling and Personalization

Large information spaces and complex functionality of contemporary systems together with the advent of the Semantic Web are big challenges for the design of simple yet powerful user interfaces. The complex nature of systems thus requires the use of several presentation, personalization and user modeling methods and techniques to address the growing needs and requirements of both users and systems. We present a design of an architecture for the personalized presentation layer of a web-based information system that employs a set of interconnected software components implemented as autonomous software tools for presentation, personalization and user modeling to support features such as navigation support and different views on the presented data, acquisition and evaluation of user characteristics and user adaptation and personalization. The feasibility of our design is evaluated by its realization in the labor market application domain.

Personalized Presentation in Web-Based Information Systems

This paper presents the prototype of an adaptive faceted semantic browser - Factic. Factic implements our novel method of navigation in open information spaces represented by ontologies based on an enhanced faceted browser with support for dynamic facet generation and adaptation based on user characteristics. It is developed as part of a modular framework that supports personalization based on an automatically acquired ontological user model. We describe software tool design and implementation together with discussion on several problems mostly related to the general immaturity of current Semantic Web solutions.

Personalized faceted navigation in the semantic web

Feature modeling is an important approach to dealing with variability at an abstract level in a hierarchical manner extensively used in software product lines. For its use in conjunction with other UML models and MDA approach, it is important to correctly integrate feature modeling into UML. In this paper, we present an approach to integrating feature modeling into UML that respects abstractness of feature modeling elements. This is achieved by deriving feature modeling elements from the deeper levels of the UML metamodel. We applied this approach to the essential elements of feature modeling in the cardinality-based Czarnecki-Eisenecker notation and selected elements specific to other notations. Since UML modeling tools do not support such modifications of the UML metatmodel, in order to facilitate experimentation with combining elements from different notations, we implemented this feature modeling extension as a UML profile (in Enterprise Architect and Omondo UML).

Integrating Feature Modeling into UML.

In this paper we propose a framework for the creation of adaptive portal solutions for the Semantic Web. It supports different target domains in a single portal instance. We propose a platform environment where the ontology models and adaptivity are among first-class features. Adaptivity is supported by the personalized presentation layer that integrates software tools for automatic user characteristic acquisition. A significant contribution of the design lies in our method for automatic form building from the domain ontology and automated CRUD pattern support by object-ontology mapping. We evaluate the framework in two domains – online labor market and scientific publications.

Adaptive portal framework for Semantic Web applications.

Knowledge-capturing approaches cover a wide variety of software engineering activities, and this variety impedes to find relations and integration between them. One of movements towards knowledge reuse and integration is Model Driven Architecture, a model-centric approach based on platform-specific abstractions and model transformations. We attempt to integrate knowledge captured in Analysis Patterns extended with Feature Modelling, and we propose a method for the initial steps in MDA approach.

Although the evolving field of software engineering introduces many methods and
modelling techniques, we conjecture that the concepts of abstraction and generality are among the
fundamentals of each such methodology. This study proposed a formal representation of these two
concepts, along with a two-dimensional space for the representation of their application. Based on the
examples, we further elaborate and discuss the notion of abstraction and generalisation transformations
in various domains of software development.
