An adaptive interface for a programmable system, for predicting a desired user function, based on user history, as well as machine internal status and context. The apparatus receives an input from the user and other data. A predicted input is presented for confirmation by the user, and the predictive mechanism is updated based on this feedback. Also provided is a pattern recognition system for a multimedia device, wherein a user input is matched to a video stream on a conceptual basis, allowing inexact programming of a multimedia device. The system analyzes a data stream for correspondence with a data pattern for processing and storage. The data stream is subjected to adaptive pattern recognition to extract features of interest to provide a highly compressed representation that may be efficiently processed to determine correspondence. Applications of the interface and system include a video cassette recorder (VCR), medical device, vehicle control system, audio device, environmental control system, securities trading terminal, and smart house. The system optionally includes an actuator for effecting the environment of operation, allowing closed-loop feedback operation and automated learning.

A location reporting paging communication system comprising space satellites, ground stations and a remote receiving unit adapted to resolve a global position from signals transmitted from a communication transmitter. The subscriber in possession of the remote receiving unit updates the paging network with global positioning information. A caller paging a subscriber in possession of the remote receiving unit may request the global location of the remote receiving unit. The paging network could divulge or block such information from a caller depending on the requirements of the subscriber.

Provided is a fully automated web service with location based services generally involved in transmission of situational location dependent information to automatically located mobile receiving data processing systems. The web service communicates with a receiving data processing system in a manner by delivering information to the device when appropriate without the device requesting it at the time of delivery. There are varieties of configurations made by different user types of the web service for configuring information to be delivered, and for receiving the information. The web service maximizes anonymity of users, provides granular privacy control with a default of complete privacy, and supports user configurable privileges and features for desired web service behavior and interoperability. The web service is fully automated to eliminate human resources required to operate services. Integrated with the web service are enhanced location based services providing map solutions, alerts, sharing of novel services between users, and complete user control for managing heterogeneous device interoperability through the web service.

System and method for anonymous location based services

In a method for traffic determination, a routing and information system for individual motor vehicle traffic is used, in which by way of stationary routing station poles, route information and local information are transmitted to the passing vehicles. For the determination of the traffic situation, the traveling times between two routing station poles are measured in individual vehicles with timing units. These traveling times are transmitted, together with the local information of the first routing station pole passed by a vehicle, to the second routing station pole and are considered in determining new route recommendations.

Method for traffic determination in a routing and information system for individual motor vehicle traffic

Route planning computers of transport contractors are connected to a guidance and information system to obtain individual route guidance. The guidance and information control centre also has a transport route computer and a data transmission device which can be connected to the route planning computers. Each route-planning computer is also provided with a data transmission device and a connection device for loading bay walls. The delivery vehicles are equipped with a guidance and information device. In the transport route computer, the data (digitised description of the road network and current traffic data) are specially processed for truck traffic and transmitted to the route planning computers if required, where they are combined with the route planning data. From this, optimum routes are calculated for each delivery vehicle with name, address, coordinates and the sequence of customers to be delivered to and transmitted to the departing delivery vehicles, with the relevant guidance vector chains via the loading bay walls; the guidance on routes to the customers is displayed in the vehicles.

A control system for individual traffic in a road network comprising stationary transmitting devices (3, BK) arranged in the region of the roadways and which cyclically transmit to all passing vehicles (1 ; FZ) items of control information supplied by a central unit (Z) and/or are permanently stored, in order to reach all destinations attainable from their location, each of the individual vehicles (1 ; FZ) is provided with a receiving device (ME) for the items of control information supplied by the control beacons (BK) and an input device (EG) for the input of a specific destination, and wherein the items of control information which relate to the selected destination are selected and displayed on a display device (AG) via a destination comparison device (VI), characterized in that each item of control information which is destined to be displayed in the vehicle (FZ) is transmitted together with a location characterisation of the specified region of its display and stored in an information store (SP1) arranged in the vehicle (FZ), in addition each vehicle (1 ; FZ) contains a navigation device (AN) which operates independently of the central unit (Z) and serves to continuously determine the vehicle position and further contains a location comparison device (V2) which serves to continuously compare the current vehicle positon with the stored location characterisations, and that whenever the stored location characterisation and the established vehicle positon are identical the items of control information assigned to the location characterisation in question are displayed on the display device (AG).

Guiding system for individual traffic

A navigation device serves for the self-sufficient destination guidance for street vehicles. At the beginning of a trip, the destination vector is input by way of an input device in the form of destination coordinates (x,y). During the trip, the path traversed is continuously determined in terms of magnitude and direction, with a dead reckoning navigation device. A destination vector is continuously determined from these measured path vectors and the input relative destination coordinates and is displayed in the field of vision of the driver with a display device.

Self-sufficient navigation device for street vehicles

A danger alarm system has a plurality of alarm circuits which are operable to provide environmental signals concerning the area about the respective alarm circuits. The alarm circuits are connected to a central exchange by way of respective lines which are terminated in the exchange by respective alarm connection circuits. A write-read memory is provided for storing the busy state of the respective lines, and receives the busy state information via an input multiplexer which is connected to a line state multiplexer through a plurality of logic gates. A comparator gates through alarm and line interrupt signals for each line in response to such signals together with busy condition signals from the memory. An output multiplexer connects the comparator to respective output indicator circuits for alarm conditions and line interrupt conditions.
