The trouble with friendly faces: skilled performance with a supportive audience.
TL;DR: In 3 experiments, supportive audiences were associated with unexpected performance decrements, performers found supportive audiences more helpful and less stressful than neutral or adversarial audiences, and participants believed that they performed better with a supportive audience.

Negative Effects of Praise on Skilled Performance
TL;DR: This article explored the possibility that praise can impair subsequent performance and found that praise appears to increase effort, but it may impair skilled performance, and the self-attention model seems best able to encompass all findings.
