Metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles, also called porous coordination polymers, are a major part of nanomaterials science, and their role in catalysis is becoming central. The extraordinary variability and richness of their structures afford engineering synergies between the metal nodes, functional linkers, encapsulated substrates, or nanoparticles for multiple and selective heterogeneous interactions and activations in these MOF-based nanocatalysts. Pyrolysis of MOF-nanoparticle composites forms highly porous N- or P-doped graphitized MOF-derived nanomaterials that are increasingly used as efficient catalysts especially in electro- and photocatalysis. This review first briefly summarizes this background of MOF nanoparticle catalysis and then comprehensively reviews the fast-growing literature reported during the last years. The major parts are catalysis of organic and molecular reactions, electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and views of prospects. Major challenges of our society are addressed using these well-defined heterogeneous catalysts in the fields of synthesis, energy, and environment. In spite of the many achievements, enormous progress is still necessary to improve our understanding of the processes involved beyond the proof-of-concept, particularly for selective methane oxidation, hydrogen production, water splitting, CO2 reduction to methanol, nitrogen fixation, and water depollution.

State of the Art and Prospects in Metal-Organic Framework (MOF)-Based and MOF-Derived Nanocatalysis.

In addition to the often-cited advantages of using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system in plant biological research (1), Arabidopsis has many additional characteristics that make it an attractive experimental organism for studying lea d (Pb) accumulation and tolerance in plants. These include its fortuitous familial relationship to many known metal hyperaccumulators (Brassicaceae), as well as similar Pbaccumulation patterns to most other plants. Using nutrient-agar plates, hydroponic culture, and Pb-contaminated soils as growth media, we found significant variation in Arabidopsis thaliana ecotypes in accumulation and tolerance of Pb. In addition, we have found that Pb accumulation is not obligatorily linked with Pb tolerance, suggesti ng that different genetic factors control these two processes. We also screened ethyl methanesulfonate-mutagenized M2 populations and identified several Pb-accumulating mutants. Current characterization of these mutants indicates that their phenotypes are likely due to alteration of general metal ion uptake or translocation processes since these mutants also accumulate many other metals in shoots. We expect that further characterization of the ecotypes and mutants will shed light on the basic genetic and physiological underpinnings of plant-based Pb remediation. 7. Bacteria and plants might be used to enhance remediation of soil pollutants in situ. This study assessed the potential of bacteria (12 isolates), plants (16 forage grasses), and plant-bacteria associations (selected pairings) to remediate 2-chlorobenzoic acid (2CBA)-contaminated soil. Initially, grass viability was assessed in 2CBA-contaminated soil. Soil was contaminated wi th 2CBA, forage grasses were grown under growth chamber conditions for 42 or 60 d, and the 2CBA concentration in soil was determined by gas chromatography. Only five of 16 forage grasses grew in 2CBA-treated (816 mg/kg) soil. Growth of Bromus inermis had no effect on 2CBA concentration, whereas Agropyron intermedium, B. biebersteinii, A. riparum, and Elymus dauricus decreased 2CBA relative to nonplanted control soil by 32 to 42%. The controversy related to the environment pollution is increasing in human life and in the eco-system. Especially, the water pollution is growing rapidly due to the wastewater discharge from the industries. The only way to find the new water resource is the reuse of treated wastewater. Several remediation technologies are available which provides a convenience to reuse the reclaimed wastewater. Heavy metals like Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd, Hg, etc. contributes various environmental problems based on their toxicity. These toxic metals are exposed to human and environment, the accumulation of ions takes place which causes serious health and environmental hazards. Hence, it is a major concern in the environment. Due to this concern, the significance of developing technology for removing heavy metals has been increased. This paper contributes the outline of new literature with two objectives. First, it provides the sketch about treatment technologies followed by their heavy metal capture capacity from industrial effluent. The treatment performance, their remediation capacity and probable environmental and health impacts were deliberated in this review article. Conclusively, this review paper furnishes the information about the important methods incorporated in lab scale studies which are required to identify the feasible and convenient wastewater treatment. Moreover, attempts have been made to confer the emphasis on sequestration of heavy metals from industrial effluent and establish the scientific background for reducing the discharge of heavy metals into the environment.

Herein, we report the creative combination of foaming and back mixing. Back mixing was simulated by the addition of dried foamed sludge (DFS) to raw sludge. Different ratios of (DFS + CaO), DFS shape and dosing sequence were investigated on the influence of sludge foamability and drying efficiency. Experimental results indicate that back mixing has positive effects on sludge foaming and sludge foam stability. Moreover, CaO is still dominant in the sludge foam. The best addition ratio is 10 g DFS + 10 g CaO for 1 kg of fresh sludge with an optimal dosing sequence of first CaO followed by DFS after 5 min. In addition, foam-mat drying for dewatered sludge is not greatly subjected to the DFS shape. During foam-mat drying, a high drying rate appears at a high foam density (>0.70 g cm−3). The foamed sludge of 0.80 g cm−3 has the fastest drying speed at 30 °C, whereas the best drying density is 0.90 g cm−3 at 50 °C. Moreover, the drying rates of foamed sludge were higher when the temperature was increased from 30 °C to 50 °C. In addition, mathematical modelling results demonstrate that the Logistic model is the most adequate model to describe the entire convective drying of thin layer sludge under the best drying density both at 30 °C and at 50 °C.

Effect of back mixing on thin-layer drying characteristics of sewage sludge by the appropriate foaming pretreatment

The invention relates to a novel absorbing material for efficiently removing phosphorus out of water and belongs to the technical field of environment protection. According to the invention, a lanthanum compound and an aluminium compound are selected as the raw materials, and a co-precipitation method is adopted to prepare the efficient phosphorus removing absorbent which can effectively remove different kinds of phosphorus out of the water under the action of electrostatic attraction, ligand exchange and absorbent surface oxygen vacancy. Compared with the existing phosphorus removing adsorbents, the novel adsorbing material is simple in preparation process, low in production cost, high in phosphorus removing efficiency, long-lasting in phosphorus fixing effect, low in ecological safety risk, wide in pH application scope, and convenient for storage, transportation and use.

Novel adsorbing material for efficiently removing phosphorus out of water

Nitrogen (N) deficiency in mining-contaminated habitats usually hinders plant growth and thus hampers tailing revegetation. Biological N fixation (BNF) is an essential biogeochemical process that contributes to the initial accumulation of N in oligotrophic mining-contaminated regions. Previous studies reported that chemolithotrophic rather than heterotrophic diazotrophs frequently dominated in the mining-contaminated regions. Chemolithotrophic diazotrophs may utilize elements abundant in such habitats (e.g., sulfur (S), arsenic (As), and antimony (Sb)) as electron donors to fix N2. BNF fueled by the oxidation of S and As has been detected in previous studies. However, BNF fueled by Sb(III) oxidation (Sb-dependent BNF) has never been reported. The current study observed the presence of Sb-dependent BNF in slurries inoculated from Sb-contaminated habitats across the South China Sb belt, suggesting that Sb-dependent BNF may be widespread in this region. DNA-stable isotope probing identified bacteria associated with Rhodocyclaceae and Rhizobiaceae as putative microorganisms responsible for Sb-dependent BNF. Furthermore, metagenomic-binning demonstrated that Rhodocyclaceae and Rhizobiaceae contained essential genes involved in Sb(III) oxidation, N2 fixation, and carbon fixation, suggesting their genetic potential for Sb-dependent BNF. In addition, meta-analysis indicated that these bacteria are widespread among Sb-contaminated habitats with different niche preferences: Rhodocyclaceae was enriched in river sediments and tailings, while Rhizobiaceae was enriched only in soils. This study may broaden our fundamental understanding of N fixation in Sb-mining regions.

Chemolithotrophic Biological Nitrogen Fixation Fueled by Antimonite Oxidation May Be Widespread in Sb-Contaminated Habitats.

The invention relates to a preparation method and an application of a graphite oxide composite heavy metal adsorbent. The method comprises the steps that a sodium acrylate monomer is added to graphite oxide aqueous dispersion liquid, wherein a mass ratio of the sodium acrylate monomer to graphite oxide is (20-40):(1-15); a polymerization reaction is performed; sodium polyacrylate and graphite oxide composite aqueous dispersion liquid is obtained; a polyethene polyamine aqueous solution is added to the sodium polyacrylate and graphite oxide composite aqueous dispersion liquid; stirring is performed at 75-85 DEG C; and the sodium polyacrylate, polyethene polyamine and graphite oxide composite hydrogel heavy metal adsorbent is obtained, wherein a mass ratio of a sodium polyacrylate and graphite oxide composite to polyethene polyamine is 1:(10-50). The heavy metal adsorbent has excellent performance in heavy metal wastewater treatment.
