This work presents the techniques used in an experimental design leading to evaluating the behaviour of an independent variable force (P), ranging from 500 up to 2500 N, 27 minimum revolution number (n), average 54 and maximum 110 rev/min and 0075, 0, 125 and 025 mm/rev advance for determining the dependent hardness (H) pattern when AISI 1045 steel test tubes were subjected to surface rolling for creating a compressive state deforming and increasing its resistance to abrasive wear and fatigue The variables involved in the process were statistically analysed, revealing increased hardness ranging from 220 up to 262 HV Optical microscopy was used for analysing the effect of hardening caused by deformation, establishing a mechanism for hardening steel by the elements in the crystalline network sliding due to burnishing

El trabajo muestra las tecnicas empleadas en un diseno de experimento que permite evaluar el comportamiento de las variables independientes fuerza (P), desde 500 hasta 2500 N, numero de revolucion (n) minimo 27, medio 54 y maximo 110 rev/min y avance (s), 0,075, 0, 125 y 0,25 mm/rev, para determinar el comportamiento de la variable dependiente dureza (H), cuando una probeta de acero AISI 1045 es sometida a tratamiento superficial por roda-dura para crear un estado compresivo que lo deforme e incremente su resistencia al desgaste y la fatiga. Se realiza el procesamiento estadistico de las variables involucradas en el proceso donde se demuestra el incremento de la dureza desde 220 hasta 262 HV. Se empleo el metodo de microscopia optica para analizar el efecto del endureci-miento por deformacion, estableciendo el mecanismo de endurecimiento del acero por el deslizamiento de los gra-nos en la red cristalina por el fenomeno de la acritud.

A procedure for hardening steel 45 by plastic deformation using a simple roller

Roller burnishing is a surface treatment inducing compressive residual stresses with a view to enhancing endurance. A cyclic elastoplastic contact problem is thus raised, for which a model based on Simplified Analysis of Inelastic Structures is proposed, enabling fast determination of the residual stresses induced at minimum cost. Model results are compared with experimental data and results obtained by another numerical method. A parametric study has been undertaken to determine the incidence of certain of the parameters involved in the process.
