Thermal deflection and thermal stresses in a thin circular plate under an axisymmetric heat source

This article is concerned with the determination of temperature and thermal deflection in a thin hollow circular disk under an unsteady-state temperature field due to internal heat generation within it. Initially, the disk is kept at an arbitrary temperature F(r, z). For times t > 0 heat is generated within the thin hollow circular disk at a rate of g(r, z, t) Btu/hr ft3, while the boundary surfaces at (r = a), (r = b), (z = 0) and (z = h) are kept at temperatures f 1(z, t) and f 2(z, t), f 3(r, t) and f 4(r, t), respectively. The governing heat conduction equation has been solved by using a finite Hankel transform and the generalized finite Fourier transform. The results are obtained in series form in terms of Bessel's functions. As a special case, different metallic disks have been considered. The results for temperature change and the thermal deflection have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically.

Nonhomogeneous Heat Conduction Problem and Its Thermal Deflection Due to Internal Heat Generation in a Thin Hollow Circular Disk

The present research deals with the deformation in transversely isotropic thermoelastic (TIT) thin circular plate. Rotation effect is studied under thermally insulated as well as isothermal boundaries. The Laplace and Hankel transform techniques have been used to find the solution to the problem. The displacement components, conductive temperature distribution, and stress components with the radial distance are computed in the transformed domain and further calculated in the physical domain using numerical inversion techniques. The effects of rotation and two temperatures are represented graphically. Some specific cases are also figured out from the current research.

Analytical solutions for thermal stresses (radial, tangential, and axial) in a hollow cylinder with uniform internal heat generation for the thermal boundary condition of convective heating on the inside surface and convective cooling on the outside surface are derived. The analysis assumes the ends of the cylinder to be clamped, the axial strain to be negligible, and the radial stresses on the inside and the outside surfaces to be zero. Results are presented to illustrate the effects of internal heat generation parameter Q, convective environment temperatures ratio θ*, Biot number for convection on the inside surface Bi 1, Biot number for convection on the outside surface Bi 2, and the radii ratio ρ on thermal stresses distribution in the cylinder. The analytical solutions should serve as benchmarks for validating the numerical codes for dealing with more complicated cases.

Time dependent heat flux Q(t) is applied at the outer circular boundary (r = b), whereas inner circular boundary (r = a) is at zero heat flux. Also, initially the circular disk is at arbitrary temperature F(r). The governing heat conduction equation has been solved by the method of integral transform technique. The radial stress function σrr is zero at inner and outer circular boundaries (r = a and r = b). The results are obtained in a series form in terms of Bessel's functions. The results for displacement and stresses have been computed numerically and illustrated graphically.

Quasi-Static Thermal Stresses Due to Heat Generation in a Thin Hollow Circular Disk

This paper deals with the determination of thermal deflection in a thin clamped circular plate defined as 0 ≤r ≤ b; 0 ≤z ≤ h due to internal heat generation within it. A thin clamped circular plate is considered having arbitrary initial temperature and subjected to time dependent heat flux at the fixed circular boundary (r = b). The lower surface (z = 0) is at zero temperature whereas upper surface (z = h) is thermally insulated. The governing heat conduction equation has been solved by using integral transform technique. The edge of the circular plate is fixed and clamped at r = b. The results are obtained in series form in terms of Bessel's functions. As a special case different metallic plates have been considered and the results for thermal deflection have been computed numerically and are illustrated graphically.
