Enhanced control of light and sound trajectories with three-dimensional gradient index lenses

TL;DR: In this article, the authors numerically study the focusing and bending effects of light and sound waves through heterogeneous isotropic cylindrical and spherical metamaterials and show that the control of light requires spatially varying anisotropic permittivity and permeability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finite elements modelling of scattering problems for flexural waves in thin plates: Application to elliptic invisibility cloaks, rotators and the mirage effect

TL;DR: A finite elements algorithm is proposed to solve a fourth order partial differential equation governing the propagation of time-harmonic bending waves in thin elastic plates and the versatility of transformation elastodynamics is emphasized with the design of an elliptic cloak which rotates the wavevector of a flexural wave within its core.

Structure that can channel an elastic wave propagating in a plate

TL;DR: In this article, a structure for bending transversal elastic waves around a zone to isolate of a plate is proposed, which is made by defining a meshing of a peripheral zone surrounding the zone and dividing the peripheral zone into several elementary rings and several elementary angular sectors; and forming, in each mesh delimited by an elementary angular sector and an elementary ring, a structural element in a material having a Young's modulus and/or a mass density different than those of the material forming the plate, the dimensions of the meshes and of the structural elements in the plane of the plate

Metamaterials, from electromagnetic waves to water waves, bending waves and beyond

TL;DR: Farhat et al. as discussed by the authors showed that transposition of invisibility concepts developed in electromagnetism to water waves is straightforward using simple a shallow water model and showed that cloaking of bending waves on a thin plate is possible with potential applications to anti-vibrating systems.
