This paper presents an overview of the work done on graphene in recent years. It explains the preparation techniques, the properties of graphene related to its physio-chemical structure and some key applications. Graphene, due to its outstanding electrical, mechanical and thermal properties, has been one of the most popular choices to develop the electrodes of a sensor. It has been used in different forms including nanoparticle and oxide forms. Along with the preparation and properties of graphene, the categorization of the applications has been done based on the type of sensors. Comparisons between different research studies for each type have been made to highlight their performances. The challenges faced by the current graphene-based sensors along with some of the probable solutions and their future opportunities are also briefly explained in this paper.

Graphene and its sensor-based applications: A review

Recent progress in the synthesis of graphene and derived materials for next generation electrodes of high performance lithium ion batteries

Inkjet printing is recognised as an efficient method for direct deposition of functional materials on flexible substrates in predesigned patterns owing to simple processing, low cost and higher adaptability for large scale fabrication of electronic devices, sensors, light emitting diodes, etc. Inks used in inkjet printing mostly consist of organic polymers, metal nanoparticles and carbon materials such as graphene and carbon nanotubes. For effectiveness of the printing process, the fluid dynamic parameters such as viscosity and surface tension, as well as dimensionless quantities such as the Weber number, Reynolds number, and Ohnesorge number, must be within a suitable limit. More frequently, this process suffers due to the formation of a coffee ring during the post printing process, which affects the morphology as well as electrical conductivity of the printed pattern. In this review, we have summarized the various aspects of inks such as fluid dynamical parameters of inks, mechanism of the coffee ring formation, different types of ink preparation strategies and their applications in sensors, thin film transistors, and energy storage devices.

A review on inkjet printing of nanoparticle inks for flexible electronics

Graphene fiber (GF) is a macroscopically assembled fibrous material made of individual units of graphene and its derivatives. Beyond traditional carbon fibers, graphene building blocks consisting of regulable sizes and regular orientations of GF are expected to generate extreme mechanical and transport properties, as well as multiple functions in smart electronic fibrous devices and textiles. Here, the features of GF are presented along four lines: preparation, morphology, structure-performance correlations, and state-of-the-art applications as flexible and wearable electronics. The principles, experiments, and keys of fabricating GF from graphite with different methods, focusing on the industrially viable mainstream strategy, wet spinning, are introduced. Then, the fundamental relationship between the mechanical and transport properties and the structure, including both highly condensed structures for high-performance and hierarchical structures for multiple functions, is presented. The advances of GF based on structure-performance formulas boost its functional applications, especially in electronic devices. Finally, the possible promotion methods and structural-functional integrated applications of GF are discussed.

A Review on Graphene Fibers: Expectations, Advances, and Prospects.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a powerful technique used for the analysis of interfacial properties related to bio-recognition events occurring at the electrode surface, such as antibody-antigen recognition, substrate-enzyme interaction, or whole cell capturing. Thus, EIS could be exploited in several important biomedical diagnosis and environmental applications. However, the EIS is one of the most complex electrochemical methods, therefore, this review introduced the basic concepts and the theoretical background of the impedimetric technique along with the state of the art of the impedimetric biosensors and the impact of nanomaterials on the EIS performance. The use of nanomaterials such as nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanowires, and nanocomposites provided catalytic activity, enhanced sensing elements immobilization, promoted faster electron transfer, and increased reliability and accuracy of the reported EIS sensors. Thus, the EIS was used for the effective quantitative and qualitative detections of pathogens, DNA, cancer-associated biomarkers, etc. Through this review article, intensive literature review is provided to highlight the impact of nanomaterials on enhancing the analytical features of impedimetric biosensors.
