Ductile failure as a constitutive instability in porous plastic solids

TL;DR: In this article, a criterion for ductile rupture is derived using Rice's theory for macroscopic strain localization, and a constitutive relation for porous plastic solids that accounts for inhomogeneous yielding at the mesoscale.
Journal ArticleDOI

A discrete dislocation analysis of strengthening in bilayer thin films

TL;DR: In this paper, a two-dimensional discrete dislocation plasticity framework is used to analyse the response to uniaxial tension of nanoscale bilayer thin films and the resulting boundary value problem is solved using the finite element method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Numerical assessment of an anisotropic porous metal plasticity model

TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed numerical assessment of a micromechanical model of porous metal plasticity developed previously by the authors, and the model's macroscopic dilatancy at incipient plastic flow was compared against that of the numerical limit analysis approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Strength distribution of large unidirectional composite patches with realistic load sharing.

TL;DR: Monte Carlo simulations of the failure of unidirectional fiber composites in a plane transverse to the fiber direction are performed on much larger patches than in previous works, assuming a realistic load redistribution scheme from broken to intact fibers.
