A2B′B″O6 perovskites: A review

The effect of electron doping on the magnetic properties of the Brownmillerite-type bilayered compounds has been investigated by neutron powder diffraction in La substituted Ca2.5-xLaxSr0.5GaMn2O8 compounds (x = 0.05 and 0.1), in comparison with the undoped compound (x = 0). In all compounds, a long-range three dimensional collinear antiferromagnetic (AFM) structure is found below the N\'eel temperature TN of respective compound, whereas, well above TN, three dimensional short-range magnetic ordering is observed. In the intermediate temperature range just above TN, a strong effect of electron doping (La substitution) on the magnetic correlations has been observed. Here, a short-range AFM correlation with possible dimensionality of three has been found for substituted compounds (x = 0.05 and 0.1) as compared to the reported two dimensional long-range AFM ordering in the parent compound. With increasing the electron doping, a decrease in TN is also observed. The short-range magnetic correlations set in over a large temperature range above TN. A magnetic phase diagram in the x-T plane is proposed from these results.

We have synthesized polycrystalline La0.95Nd0.05CrO3 sample by doping the La-site of LaCrO3 with Nd and its magnetic properties have been studied using DC magnetization and neutron diffraction techniques. DC magnetization study shows a paramagnetic to a weak ferromagnetic-like transition at ∼295 K followed by signatures of a spin reorientation phenomenon at 233 and 166 K and, finally a transition to an antiferromagnetic-like phase at ∼21 K. Low-temperature neutron diffraction measurements confirm a weak ferrimagnetic ordering of Cr3+ moments at all temperatures below 295 K.

Magnetic ordering in U 0.95 Th 0.05 Cu 2 Ge 2

Magnetic properties and magnetic structure of the Ba2Mn(PO4)2 antiferromagnet featuring frustrated zigzag chains of Mn2+ ions are reported based on neutron diffraction, density-functional band-structure calculations, as well as temperature- and field-dependent measurements of magnetization and specific heat. A magnetic transition at TN ≃ 5 K marks the onset of the antiferromagnetic order with the propagation vector and the ordered moment of 4.33 ± 0.08μB/Mn2+ at 1.5 K, pointing along the c direction. The direction of the magnetic moment is chosen by single-ion anisotropy, which is relatively weak compared to the isostructural Ni2+ compound. Geometrical frustration has a strong impact on the thermodynamic properties of Ba2Mn(PO4)2, but manifestations of the frustration are different from those in Ba2Ni(PO4)2, where frustration by isotropic exchange couplings is minor, yet strong and competing single-ion anisotropies are present. A spin-flop transition is observed around 2.5 T. The evaluation of the magnetic structure from the ground state via the spin-flop state to the field-polarized ferromagnetic state has been revealed by a comprehensive neutron diffraction study as a function of magnetic field below TN. Finally, a magnetic phase diagram in the H–T plane is obtained.
