Parental Age and Offspring Childhood Mental Health: A Multi‐Cohort, Population‐Based Investigation
Maria A.J. Zondervan-Zwijnenburg,Sabine A M Veldkamp,Alexander Neumann,Stefania A. Barzeva,Stefanie A. Nelemans,Catharina E. M. van Beijsterveldt,Susan Branje,Manon H.J. Hillegers,Wim Meeus,Henning Tiemeier,Henning Tiemeier,Herbert Hoijtink,Albertine J. Oldehinkel,Dorret I. Boomsma +13 more
TL;DR: There was evidence of a robust negative linear relation between parental age and externalizing problems as reported by parents, and in teacher‐reports, this relation was largely explained by parental socio‐economic status.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and Environmental Influences on Different Forms of Bullying Perpetration, Bullying Victimization, and Their Co-occurrence.
Sabine A M Veldkamp,Dorret I. Boomsma,Eveline L. de Zeeuw,Catharina E. M. van Beijsterveldt,Meike Bartels,Conor V. Dolan,Elsje van Bergen +6 more
TL;DR: This first study to investigate the genetic architecture of bullying perpetration, bullying victimization, and their co-occurrence for verbal, physical and relational bullying concludes that genetic influences make some children more vulnerable to become a bully, victim or both.
Journal ArticleDOI
Parental Age in Relation to Offspring’s Neurodevelopment
Sabine A M Veldkamp,Mariëlle Zondervan-Zwijnenburg,Elsje van Bergen,Stefania A. Barzeva,N Tamayo-Martinez,Andrik I. Becht,Andrik I. Becht,C.E.M. van Beijsterveldt,Wim Meeus,Susan Branje,Manon H.J. Hillegers,Albertine J. Oldehinkel,Herbert Hoijtink,Dorret I. Boomsma,Catharina A. Hartman +14 more
TL;DR: Effects were small but significant, with better outcomes for children born to older parents, and the positive relation between parental age and offspring neurodevelopmental outcomes was partly confounded by SES.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bullying and Victimization: The Effect of Close Companionship
Sabine A M Veldkamp,Elsje van Bergen,Eveline L. de Zeeuw,Catharina E. M. van Beijsterveldt,Dorret I. Boomsma,Meike Bartels +5 more
TL;DR: The most notable finding is that female twin pairs placed together in the same classroom did not bully more often, but were victimized less often, thus pointing to a protective effect of having a close companion in the classroom.
