The present invention relates to thermoplastic moulding compositions of (A) thermoplastic polycarbonates, if appropriate mixed with (B) thermoplastic polyalkylene terephthalates and, if appropriate, additionally with (C) elastomeric graft polymers, characterized in that they contain (D) a terpolymer of acrylates, vinyl esters and unsaturated nitriles.

Thermoplastic moulding compositions

Water-soluble macromers including at least one hydrolysable linkage formed from carbonate or dioxanone groups, at least one water-soluble polymeric block, and at least one polymerizable group, and methods of preparation and use thereof are described. The macromers are preferably polymerized using free radical initiators under the influence of long wavelength ultraviolet light or visible light excitation. Biodegradation occurs at the linkages within the extension oligomers and results in fragments which are non-toxic and easily removed from the body. The macromers can be used to encapsulate cells, deliver prophylactic, therapeutic or diagnostic agents in a controlled manner, plug leaks in tissue, prevent adhesion formation after surgical procedures, temporarily protect or separate tissue surfaces, and adhere or seal tissues together.

Method for preparing a polymer alloy which is stable and homogeneous at high temperatures which comprises a component (a) one or more polymers of high molecular weight, having anhydride groups and component (b) one or more polymers of high molecular weight, having groups which have the ability to interact with hydrogen atoms to form hydrogen bonds. Initially, a solution of component (a) is prepared in an organic solvent and thereafter a solution of component (b) is added. Component (a), in the dissolved state, may be protolyzed in whole or in part, prior to or after the addition of component (b) by the action of protolyzing agents. After the solvent is removed formed products, such as granules, fibres, foils, foam, may be made from the polymer alloy.

Blends of polycarbonate, such as a polycarbonate of bisphenol-A, with (1) a grafted and nongrafted rubber, such as a diene rubber and a diene rubber grafted with a polar polymer, (2) a monovinylidene aromatic/carboxylic anhydride copolymer, such as styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer, and (3) a compatible polymer, such as styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, exhibit improved impact strength, melt flow properties and heat resistance. Such blends are particularly useful in the manufacture of molded parts which must be exposed to high temperature during manufacture and use. An example of a particularly desirable blend is a blend of a homopolycarbonate of bisphenol-A with styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer and an ABS resin containing grafted and nongrafted butadiene rubber and styrene/acrylonitrile random copolymer.
