Iron Catalysis in Organic Synthesis

This paper summarizes recent research dealing with development of titanium dioxide (TiO2) used for environmental applications. TiO2 plays the most important role owing to its excellent chemical and physical properties. However, the TiO2 band edge lies in the UV region that makes them inactive under visible irradiation. In this regard, considerable efforts have been made to increase the visible light activity of TiO2 via the modification of its electronic and optical properties. Doping TiO2 using either anions or cations is one of the typical approaches that has been largely applied. Coupling TiO2 with a narrow bad gap semiconductor (MxOy/TiO2 or MxSy/TiO2) represents another approach. This work aims to encompass the new progress of TiO2 for an efficient application in water and wastewater treatment under visible light, emphasizes the future trends of TiO2 in the environment, and suggests new research directions, including preparation aspects for the development of this promising material.

Spinels with the formula of AB2O4 (where A and B are metal ions) and the properties of magnetism, optics, electricity, and catalysis have taken significant roles in applications of data storage, biotechnology, electronics, laser, sensor, conversion reaction, and energy storage/conversion, which largely depend on their precise structures and compositions. In this review, various spinels with controlled preparations and their applications in oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) and beyond are summarized. First, the composition and structure of spinels are introduced. Then, recent advances in the preparation of spinels with solid-, solution-, and vapor-phase methods are summarized, and new methods are particularly highlighted. The physicochemical characteristics of spinels such as their compositions, structures, morphologies, defects, and substrates have been rationally regulated through various approaches. Z-scheme mechanism for methylene blue degradation over Fe2O3/g-C3N4 nanocomposite prepared via one-pot exfoliation and magnetization of g-C3N4

The electron-donor properties of Sm2O3 activated at 300, 500, and 800°C are reported from studies on the adsorption of electron acceptors of various electron affinities (electron affinity values in eV are given in parentheses): 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquino-dimethane (2.84), 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone (2.40), p-dinitrobenzene (1.77), and m-dinitrobenzene (1.26) in acetonitrile and 1,4-dioxane. The extent of electron transfer during the adsorption was determined from magnetic measurements. The acid-base properties of Sm2O3 at different activation temperatures are reported using a set of Hammett indicators. Electron donor-acceptor interactions at interfaces are important in elucidating the adhesion forces.

Electron-donating, acid-base, and magnetic properties of samaria catalyst

Ceria loaded rutile samples with different percentage of ceria and their sulphated analogues have been synthesized and characterized by various physico-chemical techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, BET-SA, TGA, EDX and UV-vis DRS. The surface acidity of the sample is determined by temperature programmed desorption of ammonia. Vapour phase decomposition of cyclohexanol performed over all the systems reveals that sulphation of the ceria loaded systems leads to selective catalysts for cyclohexene formation, along with a little enhancement in the catalytic activity. The present study also establishes the resistance of the catalysts towards deactivation.

Surface properties and catalytic activity for cyclohexanol decomposition of ceria loaded rutile and their sulphated analogues

The surface acidity/basicity of binary oxides of Zr and La and the ternary oxides of Zr, La and Al are reported. The data have been correlated with their catalytic activity towards liquid phase reduction of cyclohexanone. Transition metal oxides are considered as impractical catalysts due to their low acid/base strength. Acid-base properties of some of the metal oxides have been studied extensively and correlated with their catalytic activities I . Rare earth oxides are classified as basic oxides on the basis of Oj, binding energy study' and of the reaction characteristics}. Supported rare earth oxides are often used as catalysts for reactions such as polymerization 4 , carbon monoxide hydrogenation" etc. The catalytic activity of hydrous zirconium oxide calcined at various temperatures have also been reported", Mixed oxides often behave differently from their parent oxides. Catalytic activity and acid base properties of mixed oxides of Zr with La have not been reported so far. In this note we report the acid/base properties and catalytic activity of the binary oxides of Zr and La of various compositions and their ternary oxides with alumina for various compositions. The catalytic activity of oxides towards the liquid phase reduction of cyclohexanone has been studied. Since the properties depend upon the activation temperatures of the oxides, studies were carried out at different temperatures.
