Miniaturised Triangular Microstrip Antenna with Metamaterial for Wireless Sensor Node Applications

In this paper, a Rectangular Monopole Antenna (RMPA) with offset microstrip feed is presented. The structure is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 28×32×1.6 mm3. The proposed structure achieves multiband operation by engraving 2 Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRRs) and a C-Shaped slot. Also, 2 Split Ring Resonators (SRRs) are printed on the adjacent sides of the radiating element. The parametric analysis is used to determine the optimum position of the feed and other critical parameters. The proposed structure operates at 2.25 GHz, 3.86 GHz, 4.60 GHz, 5.64 GHz, 5.86 GHz, 6.94 GHz, 7.48 GHz, and 9.47 GHz. The permeability of the SRR and permittivity of the CSRR are extracted and presented. The proposed antenna is fabricated and measured. The measured results of S11, radiation pattern, and gain are on par with the simulated results. The proposed antenna’s simulated surface current and efficiency are also presented to validate the performance. Simple structure, stable radiation pattern, multiband operation, reasonable gain, and efficiency are the significant features of the proposed RMPA.

Design of a wideband right‐handed circularly polarized array of miniaturized mushroom‐shaped antennas for direct broadcast satellite application

In this paper, the authors presented a new fractal microstrip patch antenna for Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) (5.850–5.925 GHz) (IEEE 802.11p) service band. The proposed structure is obtained by etching the Minkowski boxes in all the four corners of a square geometry. Further, a square, obtained by imposing a scale factor of 50% of the existing sides, has been erased from each of the corners of the resultant structure. The final structure is obtained by superimposing this existing one with its $$45^\circ $$
 rotated version. In order to get proper circular polarization and satisfactory S
 $$_{11}$$
 characteristics from this structure, three diagonal grooves and four cross-coupled rectangular thin slits are carved from the resultant fractal geometry. A single layered Roger 5880 PCB laminated material is used to design the structure and simulated it using CST Microwave studio. The proposed antenna is a right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) one with resonating frequency of 5.91 GHz. The measured CP gain of the antenna at resonating frequency is 5.58 dBic, and it gives a 3-dB axial bandwidth of 102 MHz which entirely covers the DSRC band. The measured radiation efficiency of the antenna is 94% and its computed aperture efficiency becomes 72%. The measured result of the prototype makes an excellent agreement with the simulated counterpart.

Design of a Right-Handed Circularly Polarized Printed Antenna for Vehicular Communication

This paper presents a compact single feed circularly polarized (CP) antenna along with a frequency selective surface (FSS) that acts as a partially reflective surface over the patch. Patch is loaded with four diagonally asymmetric complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) in order to achieve circular polarization. In this paper a novel design of reflective type FSS layer is presented at 2.4 GHz. The size of FSS unit cell is approximately 0.132λ0 × 0.132λ0, and it is placed at a distance of 0.146λ0 from the patch. Simulated impedance bandwidth of the antenna for S11 < −10 dB is from 2.385 to 2.506 GHz (121 MHz or 4.95%) which covers the entire IEEE 802.11 WLAN band (2.4–2.484 GHz). Position of the four CSRRs on the patch and the height of FSS screen are determined through parametric studies, and the detailed analyses in terms of reflection coefficient, axial ratio, and gain variation are also presented. Gain of the antenna is 3.02 dBic at the operating frequency 2.45 GHz. Measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones.

Diagonally asymmetric csrrs loaded circularly polarized antenna with frequency selective surface

In this paper, complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) based single feed rectangular microstrip antennas are designed for circular polarization. In the first antenna design, two CSRRs are loaded on ground, and for the second design, two CSRRs are loaded on patch with identical orientation of meta-resonators in both cases. CSRRs are used to diminish the resonance frequency of the antenna, and thus the antenna size miniaturization can be achieved. Overall dimensions of the two antennas are (50× 50× 1.6) mm3, and the impedance bandwidth for S11 < −10 dB exhibits between 2.3 and 2.4 GHz which is useful for wireless communication service. The characteristics of the proposed antennas, i.e., reflection coefficient, axial ratio, gain, and radiation patterns, are observed and compared for the two cases. The proposed two antennas have been designed and simulated using CST Microwave studio 14. The circularly polarized antenna with CSRRs loaded on patch has been fabricated for experimental verification of the simulated results. Measured reflection coefficient, gain, and radiation pattern are in good agreement with the simulated result.

The most important aspect of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) networks is to provide heterogeneous traffic flows with a guarantee of Quality of Service (QoS). To this end, we have designed an efficient adaptive Weighted Hybrid Queue Scheduling Scheme (WHQSS) to support differential QoS requirements for traffic classes, which are heterogeneous in BWA networks. At first, the performance of WHQSS is analyzed in comparison with two important Queue Scheduling Schemes (QSSs), namely Priority Queue Scheduling Scheme (PQSS) and Hybrid Queue Scheduling Scheme (HQSS) those are designed with some major existing scheduling algorithms. A single analytical platform has been created using 3D Continuous Time Markov Chain (CTMC) model to investigate the performance in terms of several parameters like mean number of packets waiting in the queue, throughput, mean queuing delay, packet loss probability, and fairness index of the said QSSs. The comparative performance results clearly reveal the superiority of WHQSS providing optimal QoS guarantee and highest fairness than other QSSs for heterogeneous traffic classes.
