Journal ArticleDOI
Screening of 134 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) previously associated with type 2 diabetes replicates association with 12 SNPs in nine genes.
Cristen J. Willer,Lori L. Bonnycastle,Karen N. Conneely,William L. Duren,Anne U. Jackson,Laura J. Scott,Narisu Narisu,Peter S. Chines,Andrew D. Skol,Heather M. Stringham,John Petrie,Michael R. Erdos,Amy J. Swift,Sareena T. Enloe,Andrew G. Sprau,Eboni Smith,Maurine Tong,Kimberly F. Doheny,Elizabeth W. Pugh,Richard M. Watanabe,Thomas A. Buchanan,Timo T. Valle,Richard N. Bergman,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Karen L. Mohlke,Francis S. Collins,Michael Boehnke +27 more
TL;DR: The replication of 12 SNPs of 114 tested was significantly greater than expected by chance under the null hypothesis of no association, and SNPs from genes that had three or more previous reports of association were significantly more likely to be replicated in this sample.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common variants in maturity-onset diabetes of the young genes contribute to risk of type 2 diabetes in Finns.
Lori L. Bonnycastle,Cristen J. Willer,Karen N. Conneely,Anne U. Jackson,Cecily P. Burrill,Richard M. Watanabe,Peter S. Chines,Narisu Narisu,Laura J. Scott,Sareena T. Enloe,Amy J. Swift,William L. Collins +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the other five known MODY genes for association with type 2 diabetes in Finnish individuals, including GCK, HNF1A and NEUROD1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial polymorphisms and susceptibility to type 2 diabetes-related traits in Finns
Karen L. Mohlke,Anne U. Jackson,Laura J. Scott,Erin C. Peck,Yong D. Suh,Peter S. Chines,Richard M. Watanabe,Thomas A. Buchanan,Karen N. Conneely,Michael R. Erdos,Narisu Narisu,Sareena T. Enloe,Timo T. Valle,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Richard N. Bergman,Michael Boehnke,Francis S. Collins +16 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that mitochondrial genome variants may play at most a modest role in glucose metabolism in the Finnish population and not support a reported maternal inheritance pattern of T2DM but instead show a strong effect of recall bias.

TL;DR: Evidence is found of type 2 diabetes association with SNPs in five of the six known MODY genes: GCK, H NF1A, HNF1B, NEUROD1, and HNF4A, which suggests that common variants in several MODy genes play a modest role in type 2abetes susceptibility.
