Pollen deposition in mosses and in a modified ‘Tauber trap’ from Hailuoto, Finland: what exactly do the mosses record?

TL;DR: The use of mosses as a source of modern pollen analogues is explored in order to explore whether the pollen composition differs between the collecting media in terms of the proportions of individual pollen taxa, pollen accumulation and diversity, and whether the time period covered by the moss sample can be delimited.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiocarbon dating of modern peat profiles: pre- and post-bomb 14c variations in the construction of age-depth models

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented studies of 9 modern (up to 400-yr-old) peat sections from Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Finland, with an accuracy of 23 years.
Journal ArticleDOI

A step further towards quantitative reconstruction of past vegetation in Fennoscandian boreal forests: Pollen productivity estimates for six dominant taxa

TL;DR: In this article, a set of 24 moss samples were collected and their pollen content analyzed, and detailed vegetation analyses were carried out within a 10.5-m radius around the samples.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tracing and interpreting fine-scale human impact in northern Fennoscandia with the aid of modern pollen analogues

TL;DR: Numerical analyses indicate that in northern areas human presence is mainly visible as increased values of Gramineae, Rumex acetosa/acetosella, R. obtusifolius, Solidago-type and Achillea-type pollen, and it is possible to distinguish the impact of different types of human activities on vegetation on the basis of the pollen spectra.
