An Encryption-then-Compression System for JPEG/Motion JPEG Standard

In many multimedia applications, image encryption has to be conducted prior to image compression. This letter proposes an Encryption-then-Compression system using JPEG XR/JPEG-LS friendly perceptual encryption method, which enables to be conducted prior to the JPEG XR/JPEG-LS standard used as an international standard lossless compression method. The proposed encryption scheme can provides approximately the same compression performance as that of the lossless compression without any encryption. It is also shown that the proposed system consists of four block-based encryption steps, and provides a reasonably high level of security. An Encryption-then-Compression System for Lossless Image Compression Standards

This paper proposes a novel countermeasure framework to detect spoofing attacks to reduce the vulnerability of automatic speaker verification (ASV) systems. Recently, ASV systems have reached equivalent performances equivalent to those of other biometric modalities. However, spoofing techniques against these systems have also progressed drastically. Experimentation using advanced speech synthesis and voice conversion techniques has showed unacceptable false acceptance rates and several new countermeasure algorithms have been explored to detect spoofing materials accurately. However, the countermeasures proposed so far are based on the acoustic differences between natural speech signals and artificial speech signals, expected to become gradually smaller in the near future. In this paper, we focus on voice liveness detection, which aims to validate whether the presented speech signals originated from a live human. We use the phenomenon of pop noise, which is a distortion that happens when human breath reaches a microphone, as liveness evidence. This paper proposes pop noise detection algorithms and shows through an experimental study that they can be used to discriminate live voice signals from artificial ones generated by means of speech synthesis techniques.

An encryption-then-compression system for JPEG standard

It is well-known that a number of excellent super-resolution (SR) methods using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) generate checkerboard artifacts. A condition to avoid the checkerboard artifacts is proposed in this paper. So far, checkerboard artifacts have been mainly studied for linear multirate systems, but the condition to avoid checkerboard artifacts can not be applied to CNNs due to the non-linearity of CNNs. We extend the avoiding condition for CNNs, and apply the proposed structure to some typical SR methods to confirm the effectiveness of the new scheme. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed structure can perfectly avoid to generate checkerboard artifacts under two loss conditions: mean square error and perceptual loss, while keeping excellent properties that the SR methods have.
