Supply chain collaboration: Impact on collaborative advantage and firm performance

Despite its infancy, some authors are already suggesting that the writing may be on the wall for supply chain collaboration. It has been reported that supply chain collaboration has proved difficult to implement; there has been an over‐reliance on technology in trying to implement it; a failure to understand when and with whom to collaborate; and fundamentally a lack of trust between trading partners. This paper proposes that a supply chain segmentation approach, based on customer buying behaviour and service needs, is the most appropriate context for collaboration. The paper also proposes the need for a greater understanding of the elements that make up supply chain collaboration, and in particular how the relevant cultural, strategic and implementation elements inter‐relate with each other.

Understanding the meaning of collaboration in the supply chain

Purpose – In the emerging disciplines of risk management and supply chain management, resilience is a relatively undefined concept. The purpose of this paper is to present an integrated perspective on resilience through an extensive review of the literature in a number of disciplines including developmental psychology and ecosystems. In addition, the paper identifies and addresses some of the current theoretical gaps in the existing research.Design/methodology/approach – Supply chain resilience has been defined by a number of disciplines. An integrative literature review is conducted in an attempt to integrate existing perspectives. Understanding the concept of supply chain resilience

Collaboration with external supply chain entities influences increased internal collaboration, which in turn improves service performance. This relationship may be the key to helping managers understand how best to facilitate behavioral change. The implication is that collaborating with customers and suppliers is a first step toward effective collaboration within the firm.

Supply chain collaboration and logistical service performance

Coaching has received considerable attention in recent years as the responsibility for employees' learning and development has been increasingly devolved to line managers. Yet there exists little published empirical research that measures specific coaching behaviors of line managers or examines the linkages between line managers' coaching behavior and employee performance. This survey study integrates the perceptions of supervisors and their respective employees to examine supervisory coaching behavior in an industrial context and to assess its association with employee job satisfaction and performance. Findings suggest that supervisory coaching behavior is positively associated with employees' job satisfaction and performance. Implications for research and practice are presented.

Supervisory Coaching Behavior, Employee Satisfaction, and Warehouse Employee Performance: A Dyadic Perspective in the Distribution Industry.

This study tests the 21st Century Logistics framework by examining the managerial relationships it describes and the degree to which it makes clear the link between improving logistical processes and operating performance improvements. It uses as a framework the six logistics competencies to determine their relative importance and their overall contribution to improved logistics and, by extension, improved operating performance. The primary goal of supply chain improvements is to lower costs and improve customer satisfaction. The most significant of the six areas of competency for achieving these goals are customer integration (creating lasting loyalty with prime customers) and internal integration (seamless linking of internal actions with customer needs). Managers should identify the requirements of their most important customers and work to satisfy those needs in order to get the most out of investments and efforts on supply chain integration. More research is indicated in the areas of the financial rewards of superior performance.
