Methods for modelling excess mortality across England during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sharmani Barnard,Sharmani Barnard,Chiara Chiavenna,Sebastian Fox,Andre Charlett,Zachary Waller,Nick Andrews,Peter Goldblatt,Paul Burton,Daniela De Angelis,Daniela De Angelis +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the data and methods used in five different approaches to estimating excess mortality and compare their estimates. But none of the estimates captured mortality displacement and therefore may underestimate excess at the current time, though the extent to which this has occurred is not yet identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
The impact of COVID-19 on mortality after hip fracture : a population cohort study from England.
Richard J. Holleyman,Sameer K. Khan,Andre Charlett,Dominic S. Inman,Antony Johansen,Colin S Brown,Sharmani Barnard,Sebastian Fox,Paul A. Baker,David J. Deehan,Paul Burton,Celia L Gregson +11 more
TL;DR: Those contracting infection between 8 and 30 days after initial presentation are at even higher mortality risk, signalling the potential for targeted interventions during this period to improve survival, and COVID-19 infection more than doubles the rate of early hip fracture mortality.
