The main purpose of this research is to develop and deploy an analytical framework for measuring the environmental performance of manufacturing supply chains. This work's theoretical bases combine and reconcile three major areas: supply chain management, environmental management and performance measurement. Researchers have suggested many empirical criteria for green supply chain (GSC) performance measurement and proposed both qualitative and quantitative frameworks. However, these are mainly operational in nature and specific to the focal company. This research develops an innovative GSC performance measurement framework by integrating supply chain processes (supplier relationship management, internal supply chain management and customer relationship management) with organisational decision levels (both strategic and operational). Environmental planning, environmental auditing, management commitment, environmental performance, economic performance and operational performance are the key level constructs. The proposed framework is then applied to three selected manufacturing organisations in the UK. Their GSC performance is measured and benchmarked by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a multiple-attribute decision-making technique. The AHP-based framework offers an effective way to measure and benchmark organisations' GSC performance. This study has both theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically it contributes holistic constructs for designing a GSC and managing it for sustainability; and practically it helps industry practitioners to measure and improve the environmental performance of their supply chain.

Green supply chain performance measurement using the analytic hierarchy process: a comparative analysis of manufacturing organisations

Innovation has been considered as the most important factor in today’s global and competitive environments for meeting growth, customer demands and expectations for any product development environment. The purpose of this paper is to examine the concepts of sustainable development, its practices and impacts within demand-driven supply chain (DDSC) environments. This paper is part of a wider project and within later stages of the study, a novel framework will be developed in order to link new product development (NPD) and demand chain management (DCM) aspects from the analysis of the research findings.,This research has adopted the approach of descriptive method which tends to examine demand chain concept and its evolution through recent years, while having a particular focus into NPD projects.,The paper investigates early study models through key findings of the literature that focuses on demand chain and NPD for the use and implementation of sustainability measures within manufacturing environments. The research study highlights the need for incorporation of NPD–DCM through the entire business ecosystem entities and also through the flow of information, materials and resources within the structure of the SC. The study finds out the key hurdles of the companies towards adoption of DDSCs in NPD environments, such as lack of cross-organisational association and lack of innovative demand chain frameworks.,The novelty of the research is to develop an early understanding within DDSCs, considering the product development programmes particularly focused on marketing activities. The study provides future researchers with the platform to undertake studies within similar function of DDSC environments.

The Brazilian textile and clothing industry is considered one of the most important industries, being a reference worldwide, however, it has presented several difficulties, in the face of the performance of the national economy and the complexity of the various companies that make up its supply chain. This article characterizes the main companies that make up the textile and clothing supply chain in the state of Santa Catarina, as well as of its business partners and marketed products. Based on a review of the literature on the textile and garment industry and on secondary data obtained from the national databases of the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment and the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat, the supply chain of the textile and clothing industry the size of the companies and the production volumes that allow to estimate the material flows of this industry in the state of Santa Catarina and, more specifically, in the mesoregion of the Vale do Itajai, thus allowing a better understanding of this chain of production. and its economic importance to the state and country.

Accomplishing veritable demand in a timely manner is a true challenge in present business circumstances especially for the fashion products where the demand is to get more varieties in short interval. Managing demand and supply is not that naA¯ve as the supply chain is complicated by the outsourcing trend. This study aims to assess how brands in the fashion industry are managing their demand-supply chains (DSCs) by considering both trendy and regular product. This paper is based on the literature review of demand chain management (DCM) and also supply chain management (SCM) of the fashion industry. Also the research on demand-supply chain management (DSCM) is studied as a scope of demand-supply management in fashion industry. Textile and apparel processing stages are also studied to understand the manufacturing and supply chain complexity. The review identified that the degree of fashion sensitivity adopted by the retail brands influences their supply chain strategy. Fast fashion retailers urge to respond quickly and they need a flexible and responsive supply chain and contrariwise, others do need fast response but more efficiency focus with economy of scale. chains. The demand side aspects and supply side alignment will contribute insights on DSC organization in textile-apparel supply chain. Also textile and apparel manufacturers may have a clearer picture regarding the structure of retailers DSCs. The findings may also prove useful for them who are not aligned with the fast track concept, but yet supplying product in timely manner is their top priority. The co-ordination of complex and multidimensional textile-apparel supply chain with individual interest is still a concern and yet to be resolved. The objective of the study is to add knowledge for perceiving the importance of the co-ordination for mutual benefit.

An Overview of Demand Management through Demand Supply Chain in Fashion Industry

Manufacturing companies have a plethora of methods through which to build and manage their demand supply chains (DSCs). This study aims to assess how retail brands in the fashion industry have organized and managed their DSCs. Both trendy and regular product based retail brands were included in the study. The paper is based on a literature review of apparel supply chain management and analyses the demand process of leading fashion brands. Textile and apparel processing stages associated to DSCs were also studied. The review identified that the degree of fashion sensitivity adopted by the retail brands influences their supply chain strategy. Manufacturers dealing with fast fashion operate a rapid response and flexible supply chain, whereas efficiency is key for less fashionsensitive brands. This study assesses the DSCs of retail brands for which data is available in journal articles, associated companies’ web sites, and web resources related to the textile industry. DSCs classified by other basis than fashion sensitivity can be compared. It demonstrates the DSC characteristics of retail brands, allowing the findings to be exploited by other industries to analyse and further develop their DSCs. Further, textile and apparel producers may thus obtain valuable insights regarding the structure of retailers’ DSCs. The findings may also prove useful for retailers less sensitive to seasonality but seeking a competitive advantage through the rapid supply of products. The complex structure of the textile and apparel supply chain is still a concern in coordination of the DSC. This paper provides insights on the demand-supply network contributing to the achievement of better coordination.

An Assessment of the Organization of Demand Supply Chains in the Fashion Industry

The global shifting of production insists the fashion brands and retailers to focus more on the operational efficiency to take the cost advantage and simultaneously fulfil the demand quickly. But the contemporary market urges to do it also in sustainable way. The purpose of this paper is to investigate what are the considerations for sustainable operation. A literature review is made to learn the researchers’ considerations for sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). A hierarchy is constructed to classify the aspects of sustainability in different levels for social, environmental and economic compliance with the addition of product compliance as a similarly important consideration for sustainability in the fashion supply chain (FSC). A frame work presented for sustainable supply chain operation (SSCO) by highlighting the key practices in the FSC. The presented supply chain (SC) model considered the operational level topics from the hierarchy. This study is an endeavour to substantiate the significance of the integration of product sustainability at the operational level through inter-relationship in the R&D phase by multiparty in the SC who are working with the same goal. This framework provides the insights for the stakeholders in the FSC about the key relationships among the parties at operational level.

A conceptual model for sustainable supply chain operation in fashion industry

Offshore manufacturing and outsourcing trend in recent days in fashion industry complicates their supply chain (SC). This study focuses to this perplexity and assesses the potentiality of leagility to achieve required competitiveness in such circumstances. The nature of the fashion supply chain is recapitulated and the aspect of leagility is observed within existing literature and through case studies. The tendency of global sourcing, e.g., quick supply of manufacture economically obliges them to rethink the SC strategy and leagility is beneficent in this context in absorbing the turbulence. This research provides a direction to the retailers unsure about the apt strategy by demonstrating the relevance of leagility in fashion SC. It also builds the base for further deeper study for implement the concept in different part of manufacturing chain.
