Journal ArticleDOI
Childhood and Adolescent Adversity and Cardiometabolic Outcomes: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
Shakira F. Suglia,Karestan C. Koenen,Renée Boynton-Jarrett,Paul S. Chan,Cari Jo Clark,Andrea Danese,Myles S. Faith,Benjamin I. Goldstein,Laura L. Hayman,Carmen R. Isasi,Charlotte A. Pratt,Natalie Slopen,Jennifer A. Sumner,Aslan T. Turer,Christy B. Turer,Justin P. Zachariah +15 more
TL;DR: Given that childhood adversities affect cardiometabolic health and multiple health domains across the life course, interventions that ameliorate these initial upstream exposures may be more appropriate than interventions remediating downstream cardiovascular disease risk factor effects later in life.
Journal ArticleDOI

Jane E. Clougherty,Jonathan I. Levy,Laura D. Kubzansky,P. Barry Ryan,Shakira F. Suglia,Marina J. Canner,Rosalind J. Wright +6 more
TL;DR: An association between traffic-related air pollution and asthma solely among urban children exposed to violence is found, solely among children with above-median ETV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trauma Exposure and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms Predict Onset of Cardiovascular Events in Women
Jennifer A. Sumner,Laura D. Kubzansky,Mitchell S.V. Elkind,Andrea L. Roberts,Jessica Agnew-Blais,Qixuan Chen,Magdalena Cerdá,Kathryn M. Rexrode,Janet W. Rich-Edwards,Donna Spiegelman,Shakira F. Suglia,Eric B. Rimm,Karestan C. Koenen +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that screening for CVD risk and reducing health risk behaviors in trauma-exposed women may be promising avenues for prevention and intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Housing quality, housing instability, and maternal mental health.
TL;DR: Housing instability and disarray are associated with screening positive for depression and generalized anxiety among women regardless of other social stressors present in their lives, and could potentially present a point of intervention to prevent mental health consequences among mothers and possibly their children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Why the Neighborhood Social Environment Is Critical in Obesity Prevention.
TL;DR: Intervention studies that promote healthy behaviors and prevent obesity while addressing aspects of the neighborhood social environment are necessary to better identify targets for obesity prevention.
