SOLUTION: A backup processing unit 1 for backing up backup object data stored in a memory card 2, to a CD 3, computes the capacity of the CD 3 required when backing up the backup object data by dividing it into a plurality of sessions, determines the divided number of sessions based on the computed required capacity and the free space of the CD 3, and divides the backup object data into the divided number of sessions to copy it from the memory card 2 to the CD 3. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backup system that backs up, in a batch mode, data stored in a block format in a block recording device and data stored in a file format in a file recording device. SOLUTION: The backup system comprises a first storage part for storing data in a file format, a second storage part for storing data in a block format, a backup storage part for storing backup data of the data stored in the first storage part and second storage part, a storage format conversion part for converting the data stored in the block format in the first storage part into the file format and storing them in the second storage part, and a backup management part for copying the data stored in the file format in the second storage part into the backup storage part.
