The purpose of this paper is to identify and discuss the most important research areas on information sharing in supply chains and related risks, taking into account their evolution over time. This paper sheds light on what is happening today and what the trajectories for the future are, with particular respect to the implications for supply chain management.,The dynamic literature review method called Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) was adopted. It combines the Systematic Literature Review approach and bibliographic network analyses, and it relies on objective measures and algorithms to perform quantitative literature-based detection of emerging topics.,The focus of the literature seems to be on threats that are internal to the extended supply chain rather than on external attacks, such as viruses, traditionally related to information technology (IT). The main arising risk appears to be the intentional or non-intentional leakage of information. Also, papers analyze the implications for information sharing coming from “soft” factors such as trust and collaboration among supply chain partners. Opportunities are also highlighted and include how information sharing can be leveraged to confront disruptions and increase resilience.,The adopted methodology allows for providing an original perspective on the investigated topic, that is, how information sharing in supply chains and related risks are evolving over time because of the turbulent advances in technology.,Emergent and highly critical risks related to information sharing are highlighted to support the design of supply chain risks strategies. Also, critical areas to the development of “beyond-the-dyad” initiatives to manage information sharing risks emerge. Opportunities coming from information sharing that are less known and exploited by companies are provided.,This paper focuses on the supply chain perspective rather than the traditional IT-based view of information sharing. According to this perspective, this paper provides a dynamic representation of the literature on the investigated topic. This is an important contribution to the topic of information sharing in supply chains is continuously evolving and shaping new supply chain models.

This paper extends previous environmental management research by building and empirically testing a model of the contingency effects of green advertising on the relationships between environmental management practices in terms of environmentally conscious manufacturing and product stewardship, environmental reputation and financial performance. We examine the value of green advertising in sharing and publicizing information about organizational achievements in environmental preservation in a business-to business context with the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing industry. The theoretical propositions are largely confirmed by structural path analyses of survey responses collected from 122 Taiwanese electronics manufacturers. Uncovering the Value of Green Advertising for Environmental Management Practices

Extended producer responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy introduced in Europe, back in the 1990s. Under EPR, a producer's responsibility for its products is extended beyond the consumption stage, and the producer has to meet the targets of collection and recycling rates imposed by the EPR legislation. Motivated by the importance of this topic, in this paper, we conduct a systematic review on EPR from an operations management perspective. To be specific, we categorize the EPR literature, for both e-wastes and non-e-wastes, by research methodologies (qualitative case studies, quantitative empirical research, and analytical modeling studies) and discuss the respective findings. In addition to systematically exploring the state-of-the-art research within the context of EPR, we investigate pertinent issues, such as the implementation of EPR, EPR management systems, supply chain management under EPR, and EPR-related operations (such as end-of-life product management and design for recyclability). We highlight some EPR-related innovative measures and proposals in five areas, namely policy, product, process, supply chain, and technology. Finally, we discuss future research and propose a concluding picture of how EPR can help establish innovative operational measures to improve sustainability

We study the design of reverse channels in a supply chain consisting of a manufacturer and a retailer The manufacturer makes a new product and sells it through the retailer in a previous period Used products are collected for remanufacturing at the end of the previous period In the current period, remanufactured products are sold at a lower price, together with the new products The used products can be collected either by the manufacturer or by the retailer A minimum percentage for remanufactured products is enforced by a government extended producer responsibility (EPR) policy We use game theoretic models to explore how the optimal reverse channel choice is influenced by the pricing difference on new and remanufactured products, and by the government EPR policy We find that the most effective way to collect used products is through the manufacturer In addition, the government EPR policy can benefit remanufacturing activities, promote sales of the remanufactured products, and increase supply chain profit We also show that the manufacturer benefits more when consumers are more willing to pay for a remanufactured product

Reverse channel design: the impacts of differential pricing and extended producer responsibility

The bullwhip effect is a well-known phenomenon that can be explained as the effect that demand variance is exaggerated as it moves upstream in a supply chain. Though the bullwhip effect has been extensively addressed, studies on its impact on the container shipping market have been neglected. Therefore, we consider a two-stage supply chain model, consisting of a shipping company and two shippers, and propose an integrated analytical model to quantify the beneficial impact on the handle of bullwhip effect by simultaneously incorporating information sharing and risk pooling. We not only analytically demonstrate the suggested approach can significantly reduce the amplification of demand variability, but also confirm that our method outperforms the current approaches numerically. Finally, by implementing the proposed approach in the Shanghai and Hong Kong container shipping markets, we illustrate that our method can dramatically improve the supply chain's performance in practice.

The impact of information sharing and risk pooling on bullwhip effect avoiding in container shipping markets

The bullwhip effect is a well-known phenomenon in supply chains. It refers to the effect that demand variability amplifies as one moves upstream in the supply chain towards the manufacturer. This symptom has been observed across most industries and resulting in increased cost. In this paper, the authors propose an integrated analytical model to quantify the beneficial impact of information sharing and risk pooling on the bullwhip effect. The authors study focuses on a model consisting of a manufacturer, a wholesaler and two retailers, in which the lead time is not negligible. Following the order-up-to policy, the simple moving average technique is implemented for demand forecasting. The suggested approach reduces the amplification of demand variability across the three-stage supply chain significantly. Numerical analysis demonstrates that the authors method dominates the existing approaches which utilize either information sharing or risk pooling separately in terms of controlling the bullwhip effect. Moreover, the authors further apply our approach in Shanghai and Hong Kong container shipping market. Considering the container shipping company as the manufacturer, the freight forwarding agent as the wholesaler and the shippers as retailers, the authors investigate the bullwhip effect in such a system and indicate that the authors approach can improve the supply chain's performance dramatically.
