Flavonoids in Cancer and Apoptosis.
Mariam Abotaleb,Samson Mathews Samuel,Elizabeth Varghese,Sharon Varghese,Peter Kubatka,Alena Liskova,Dietrich Büsselberg +6 more
TL;DR: A summary of flavonoids and their effectiveness in cancer treatment targeting apoptosis has been discussed and their high bioavailability, safety, minimal side effects and cost effectiveness are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges and perspectives in the treatment of diabetes associated breast cancer.
TL;DR: The three main metabolic disturbances that occur in diabetes are linked to potential aberrant molecular pathways that may lead to the development of an oncogenic phenotype of the breast tissue, thereby leading to acceleration of cell growth, proliferation, migration, inflammation, angiogenesis, EMT and metastasis and inhibition of apoptosis in breast cancer cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chili pepper as a body weight-loss food
Sharon Varghese,Peter Kubatka,Luis Rodrigo,Katarina Gazdikova,Martin Caprnda,Julia Fedotova,Anthony Zulli,Peter Kruzliak,Dietrich Büsselberg +8 more
TL;DR: This review summarizes the major pathways by which chili contributes to ameliorating parameters that help weight management and how the consumption of chili can help in accelerating weight loss through dietary modifications.
Journal ArticleDOI
High Glucose Represses the Anti-Proliferative and Pro-Apoptotic Effect of Metformin in Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells
TL;DR: The data indicates that meetingformin in combination with agents that inhibit the glycolytic pathway should be more beneficial for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancers in diabetic individuals, and that metformin treatment was most effective under zero glucose/glucose-starved conditions in MDA-MB-468.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calcium-regulatory proteins as modulators of chemotherapy in human neuroblastoma
Ana-Maria Florea,Elizabeth Varghese,Jennifer E. McCallum,Safa Mahgoub,Irfan Helmy,Sharon Varghese,Neha Gopinath,Steffen Sass,Fabian J. Theis,Guido Reifenberger,Dietrich Büsselberg +10 more
TL;DR: An important role of calcium signaling in the response of neuroblastoma cells to chemotherapy is confirmed and [Ca2+]i modulation as a promising strategy for adjunctive treatment is suggested.
