Risk factors contributing to early and late phase intrahepatic recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatectomy
Hiroshi Imamura,Yutaka Matsuyama,Eiji Tanaka,Takao Ohkubo,Kiyoshi Hasegawa,Shinichi Miyagawa,Yasuhiko Sugawara,Masami Minagawa,Tadatoshi Takayama,Seiji Kawasaki,Masatoshi Makuuchi,Masatoshi Makuuchi +11 more
TL;DR: Variables associated with metastatic recurrence were factors to early phase recurrence; whereas those related with elevated carcinogenesis contributed to late phase recurrences, thus providing an epidemiological evidence that different mechanisms, i.e. metastasis and de novo, are involved in intrahepaticRecurrence after hepatectomy for HCC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic spectra of biliary tract cancer
Hiromi Nakamura,Yasuhito Arai,Yasushi Totoki,Tomoki Shirota,Asmaa Elzawahry,Mamoru Kato,Natsuko Hama,Fumie Hosoda,Tomoko Urushidate,Shoko Ohashi,Nobuyoshi Hiraoka,Hidenori Ojima,Kazuaki Shimada,Takuji Okusaka,Tomoo Kosuge,Shinichi Miyagawa,Tatsuhiro Shibata +16 more
TL;DR: The subgroup with the poorest prognosis had significant enrichment of hypermutated tumors and a characteristic elevation in the expression of immune checkpoint molecules, suggesting immune-modulating therapies might also be potentially promising options for these patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Surgery for small liver cancers
Masatoshi Makuuchi,Tomoo Kosuge,Tadatoshi Takayama,Susumu Yamazaki,Tohoru Kakazu,Shinichi Miyagawa,Seiji Kawasaki +6 more
TL;DR: Tumor size, number of tumors, intrahepatic metastasis, vascular invasion, and capsular invasion were significant prognostic factors, and Edmondson grade and the operative procedure employed were significantly related to outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Living Related Liver Transplantation in Adults
Seiji Kawasaki,Masatoshi Makuuchi,Hidetoshi Matsunami,Yasuhiko Hashikura,Toshihiko Ikegami,Y. Nakazawa,Hisanao Chisuwa,Masaru Terada,Shinichi Miyagawa +8 more
TL;DR: Graft liver volume increased rapidly after LRLT and approximated the standard liver volume with time and can be indicated for selected donor-recipient combinations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Criteria for safe hepatic resection
TL;DR: The multiple logistic model revealed that the risk of morbidity was increased by longer operation time, major hepatic resection, and preoperative cardiovascular disease.
