Differential Biosynthesis of Polysialic or Disialic Acid Structure by ST8Sia II and ST8Sia IV
TL;DR: It is suggested that both ST8Sia II and IV catalyze polySia synthesis toward preferred acceptor substrates such as NCAM, whereas they mainly catalyze disialylation, similarly to ST7Sia III, toward unfavorable substratessuch as enzyme themselves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Cloning and Functional Expression of Two Members of Mouse NeuAcα2,3Galβ1,3GalNAc GalNAcα2,6-Sialyltransferase Family, ST6GalNAc III and IV *
Young-Choon Lee,Martina Kaufmann,Shinobu Kitazume-Kawaguchi,Mari Kono,Shou Takashima,Nobuyuki Kurosawa,Hong Liu,Hanspeter Pircher,Shuichi Tsuji +8 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the expressed enzyme is a new type of GalNAcα2,6-sialyltransferase, which requires sialic acid residues linked to Galβ1,3GalNAc residues for its activity; therefore, it is designated mouse ST6Gal NAc IV.
Journal ArticleDOI
The relationship between ST6Gal I Golgi retention and its cleavage-secretion.
TL;DR: Characterization of a series of STtyr isoform deletion mutants demonstrated that the stem is sensitive to proteases and that preventing cleavage in this region leads to increased cell surface expression, suggesting that there are additional secondary sites of Cleavage in the ST6Gal I stem.
